While players will undoubtedly enjoy the charming story and immersive environment in Honkai Star Rail, they should also be prepared for challenging obstacles. The end boss fight during Stars Are Cold Toys quest in this world can be difficult for some players. This is especially true for those who have not invested in certain characters as it requires strategic planning and skillful execution to overcome. However, despite the difficulty, the sense of accomplishment upon defeating the boss is incredibly rewarding and makes the journey all the more worthwhile. It is important to pay attention to the battle with Cocolia since she becomes one of the few Echoes of War Weekly Boss Battles until future patches release more content. Additionally, the reward materials dropped during the battle are required for many characters' Trace upgrades.

How To Beat Cocolia's Echo

Players will come across a battle with a weaker version of Cocolia during the story before they can fight the actual battle with her. In this version, Cocolia is significantly weaker, with lower attacks and less HP pool. She is weak to Quantum, Lightning, and Fire elements. Players who have access to DPS characters like Seele or Himeko in particular can have a very easy time as long as they have invested in their characters. Otherwise, players need not fret, as she can be defeated with F2P characters in their arsenal even without needing to break her shield. However, a healer character is highly recommended since she can still deal significant damage.

How To Beat Cocolia, Mother of Deception

After defeating the Echo of Cocolia, players can enter the real fight following a short cutscene. It is crucial to note that players will be prompted with a character selection screen, and Trailblazer is required in this battle. Fortunately, players need not worry about this even if they have not invested in their Trailblazer since they can still experience the character in trial mode. As this version of Cocolia also has the same weaknesses to Quantum, Fire, and Lightning elements, players are particularly recommended to focus on these elements. However, it is not mandatory since they will have access to additional utilities throughout the battle. Nevertheless, having a good healer character and a well-built DPS character, primarily focusing on single targets, can help players win the battle with ease since she has two phases with double HP pool and stronger attacks.

Once they set up their characters, they will be directed to the fight with only Trailblazer available. However, after a few hits, it becomes apparent that players cannot defeat Cocolia in this form. They will be then prompted into a storyline cutscene where they will eventually acquire the Fire Trailblazer power. Afterward, they can continue the fight with all their other characters, and a Trial version of the fire Trailblazer will also be available. Other shield characters can be greatly utilized alongside Trailblazer since Cocolia has a lock-on ability that can deal significant damage.

Furthermore, as players progress through the fight, they get access to an additional mechanic called Engine of Creation. This mechanic is highly similar to the Path Effects from the Simulated World Battles since it has its own Gauge that can be used to deal significant damage to Cocolia and her summons or break their toughness once it is entirely filled. Additionally, utilizing Fire Trailblazer's Skill to taunt Cocolia while providing shields to all characters is crucial. Additionally, using Engine of Creation whenever possible is highly recommended. Nevertheless, Fire Trailblazers Basic attack and Ultimate are also instrumental in breaking the toughness and defeating the summons.

Cocolia's Moveset

Upon completing the chapter, players can unlock the Echoes Of War gameplay mechanic of Honkai Star Rail, allowing them to fight Cocolia thrice a week for Trace materials and other crucial rewards for 30 Trailblaze Power. It is essential to note that Cocolia's Moveset is the same as in Story mode. However, players will not face the Echo version, and the Engine of Creation will be available from the start. Though Trailblazer can be useful against Cocolia's Moveset, players have the option not to use it for the Echoes Of War version.

In the first phase, Cocolia summons Ice Lances, disabling her weaknesses. Therefore, while players have access to Engine of Creation, it is advisable to wait until the effect is enabled. This attack can destroy the lances right away, enabling Cocolia's weaknesses once again. As lances also deal AoE damage on their own alongside Cocolia's own skill set, they require quick attention, Nevertheless, breaking her toughness in the early stages may be unnecessary for some players who are not interested in doing so but may become more required as they unlock higher levels.

Timing the weakness break can be critical during the second phase since Cocolia has a potent AoE attack. It can one-shot team members who have not built their relics and light cones yet. To prevent this, breaking Cocolia's toughness before the attack lands can usually suffice. If it's not possible, shield the characters and have healing available to brace for the impact. Again, timing Engine of Creation can be crucial in this instance.

Best Characters Against Cocolia In Echoes Of War

Cocolia's primary weakness is Fire, although she is also weak to Lightning and Quantum. This means that players should include at least one fire character, such as Himeko, Fire Trailblazer, or Asta, and ideally more than two, along with a healer like Bailu and Natasha. It is advisable to use burn effects to chip away at Cocolia's health, and strong single-target characters like Seele can deal significant damage and take care of the ice lances with ease.

Importantly, Cocolia is resistant to Physical, Wind, and Ice characters and immune to Frozen and Imprisonment effects. Thus, it is not recommended to use March 7 alongside other resistant characters to make the battle easier against Cocolia. Although March 7 can technically assist in protecting allies with Trailblazer, her Ultimate and normal attack are significantly weak against Cocolia.

Honkai Star Rail is available on PC, iOS, and Android. A PlayStation version is in development.
