Honkai: Star Rail is a turn-based combat fantasy RPG game centered on character progression and development. Players acquainted with this game would know just how important character ascension is.
However, with so many different rank levels, including Trailblaze levels, Equilibrium levels, and character levels, things can be quite confusing for beginners. And as if that was not enough, there is a unique character ascension mechanic which adds to the difficulty of the game. Here is how to ascend a character in Honkai: Star Rail.
What is Character Ascension in Honkai: Star Rail
Ascension allows a character to upgrade its level beyond the basal level cap, thus improving its combat skills and strength. After reaching a certain level, a character reaches its level cap in the game. At this point, the game introduces the option to ascend the character in order to further increase the level.
There are six levels of ascension in Honkai: Star Rail. The first level becomes available at the Character Level 20, which means players will have to ascend their character after it reaches level 20 to progress beyond that. The next four ascensions come at the interval of 10 levels each, and the last ascension takes a character to level 80.
How to Ascend Characters in Honkai: Star Rail
Before ascending a character to a certain Ascension level, players need to fulfill the following criteria:
- Reach the maximum character level possible before the ascension
- Reach the required Equilibrium level
- Reach the required Trailblaze level to unlock the equilibrium trials
For example, for the first ascension, a character not only needs to reach level 20 first but also Trailblaze 15, which in turn, unlocks the Equilibrium Trials. Passing those trials is mandatory to acquire Equilibrium level 1, which is also a prerequisite for the first Ascension.
Honkai: Star Rail only requires in-game items, like Credits and Ascension Materials, to ascend the characters. Ascension Materials, such as Void Cast Iron, Storm Eye, Horn of Snow, etc., are different for different characters.
In order to figure out what items are required to ascend a character, just go to the character menu and click on the Ascend menu. The game itself lists the required Ascension materials, and clicking on each gives the details on where to find them. As for the Credits, the easiest way to acquire them is through completing Golden Calyx Challenges.
After doing the hard job of acquiring the necessary Ascension Materials, go to the Character Menu, click on the Ascension Icon, go to the bottom, and select 'Ascend' to level up the character.
