In Honkai: Star Rail, the Relic Sets are an important system that can greatly enhance the strength of characters. These sets function similarly to the artifact sets in Genshin Impact, providing unique bonuses and effects when equipped to a character. Relic Sets come in different rarities, up to 5 stars, with higher rarity sets providing generally stronger bonuses and ability to upgrade further. The addition of Relic Sets adds an extra layer of strategy and customization to the game, allowing players to tailor their characters to fit their play style and objectives.

Although Honkai Star Rail shares similarities with Genshin Impact's artifact system, there is a notable difference. Genshin Impact offers 5 artifact slots, while Honkai Star Rail has two distinct relic set options, each with its own designated slots. This means that players must not only farm for one particular relic set, but also focus on another set from a completely different farming location. The system adds another layer of complexity to character building, as players must consider which relic sets to equip and how to maximize their benefits.

Relic Types and How to Obtain Them

Honkai_ Star Rail All Stars Invite Web Event

Honkai: Star Rail introduces two distinct categories of relic sets for players to collect and equip to their characters, namely Cavern Relics and Planar Ornaments. While both types offer various set effects, some have unique main stats that are exclusive to a particular relic, such as the Elemental Boost Relics found in the Planar Ornament set. On that note, Planar Sphere piece is more similar to the Goblet pieces from the Genshin Impact artifacts.

Obtaining Relics in Honkai: Star Rail is similar to Genshin Impact, as they are mainly acquired by clearing specific domains or defeating elite enemies that have a chance to drop them. Unlike acquiring characters or Light Cones, Relics are not tied to the gacha system. However, players will need to spend 40 Trailblaze Power, which is equivalent to the Resin system in Genshin Impact, to farm both types of relic sets. Accordingly, Cavern Relics are designed to be equipped in four slots - Head, Hands, Body, and Feet - and each set provides both a 2-Piece and a 4-Piece effect. These relics can be obtained through farming the Caverns of Corrosion. In contrast, Planar Ornaments function as accessories and can only be placed in the Planar Sphere and Link Rope slots. Each set of ornaments provides only a 2-Piece effect. Players can acquire Planar Ornaments by farming the Simulated Universe. Certain quests and missions and exploration may also give relic pieces.

At present, there is an ongoing web event that will last until May 24, 2023 (UTC+8), which allows players to acquire the "Make the World Clamor" 4-star Light Cone as well as some 4-star relics. As such, there may be also other events that may allow players to obtain more relic sets, however they are likely to be 4-star pieces, rather than 5-star ones.

Relic Stats and Upgrading Relics

Honkai_ Star Rail Relics Inventory and Equipment

Each relic piece in Honkai: Star Rail comes with specific main stats and sub-stats, similar to Genshin Impact. Depending on the equipment slot, some pieces can only have one set main stat, while others can receive a random stat from their available pool. Sub-stats, however, are shared among all pieces and can be randomly generated (up to 4), except for the main stat that is already available. The Body piece from Cavern Relics and Planar Sphere from Planar Ornaments have the largest and most unique pool of main stats. The Body piece is comparable to the circlet piece in Genshin Impact, while the Planar Sphere is similar to the goblet piece. The available stat options for each piece is as follows:

Name

Possible Main Stat

Head

Flat HP

Hands

Flat ATK

Body

  • HP%
  • ATK%
  • DEF%
  • CRIT Rate%
  • CRIT DMG%
  • Outgoing Healing Boost%
  • Effect Hit Rate%

Feet

  • HP%
  • ATK%
  • DEF%
  • Flat Speed
  • Break Effect%

Planar Sphere

  • HP%
  • ATK%
  • DEF%
  • Physical DMG Boost%
  • Quantum DMG Boost%
  • Imaginary DMG Boost%
  • Fire DMG Boost%
  • Ice DMG Boost%
  • Lightning DMG Boost%

Link Rope

  • Break Effect%
  • Energy Regen Rate%
  • HP%
  • ATK%
  • DEF%

Each relic in Honkai: Star Rail can have up to 4 sub-stats, which are randomly assigned based on the relic's rarity. Additionally, when upgrading relics, the sub-stat that gets upgraded is also chosen randomly. Accordingly, sub-stats can be: Flat HP, HP%, Flat ATK, ATK%, Flat DEF, DEF%, Flat Speed, Break Effect%, Effect RES%, Effect Hit Rate%, Crit Rate% and Crit DMG%.

Enhancing the relics is also quite similar to the upgrading system in Genshin Impact. As such, there are a few options for upgrading the relics. In order to upgrade a relic, players can either use unwanted or lower rarity relics, or they can use new items such as Lost Light Dusts, Lost Gold Fragments, and Lost Crystals. These items are similar to the concept of mystic enchantment ores in Genshin Impact, albeit for relics instead of Light Cones in this case.

Relics have a maximum level cap based on their rarity. 5-star relics can reach up to +15, while lower rarities have a lower maximum level, with a difference of 3 levels between each rarity. Therefore, it is recommended that players save their resources and Trailblaze Power until they can access the highest-level domains for 5-star relics, as this will provide the most benefits for their characters.

Available Relic Sets

To achieve optimal results, players are advised to focus on obtaining only the 5-star rarity versions of the relic sets. However, if a set includes both 5-star and 4-star versions, the set bonus will still be activated regardless of the item's rarity. Until players can acquire a complete 5-star set, they can use the 4-star options to fill the gaps. It is important to note that Cavern Relics offer both 2-piece and 4-piece set bonuses, allowing players to mix two sets. On the other hand, both Planar Ornaments must be from the same set to activate the bonus.

Accordingly, players will have the opportunity to equip six pieces of relics, which is one more than what is allowed in Genshin Impact resulting in more stat bonuses and set bonuses. However, optimizing the benefits of each piece can be more challenging because there is no flexible off-set piece option available.

The following lists and stats are based on information from the final CBT and are subject to change upon the game's launch.
