March 7th is more than just the poster girl for Honkai Star Rail. She's one of the three starting characters in the game, and surprisingly, she makes for a very effective support character. Many players won't find themselves asking for anyone else as long as they have this peppy archer by their side.
Building characters and finding synergies is at the heart of Honkai Star Rail, and players will need to pick the best characters and items if they want to maximize March's effectiveness. Here's an overview of her abilities and one of the best ways to use her early in the game.
March 7th's Playstyle, Skills, and Passives
March is, for all intents and purposes, a tank character. She's a member of the Preservation roster of playable characters, a category of units that specialize in defense.
Her signature skill, The Power of Cuteness, is one of the most reliable sources of shields in the game. It also scales off the DEF stat, further cementing March's role as the team tank. This skill works in tandem with March's passive, Girl Power, which lets her perform a counterattack whenever an enemy hits a shielded ally.
March 7th's ultimate, Glacial Cascade, is an AOE damaging ability that can also Freeze targets. With this, she'll be able to prevent enemies from taking turns while also causing them to take Ice damage once the Freeze effect is over.
Generally speaking, players will be using March mainly for her shield and ultimate. Her damage isn't that high, but she can break Toughness bars reliably, regardless. She synergizes well with other tanks who can draw aggro for her, such as Fire Trailblazer.

Recommended Light Cones and Relics for March 7th
There are a number of good Light Cones for March 7th since it's really hard to go wrong with anything that boosts DEF or Shield Strength. One of the best Light Cones March can use is Day One Of My New Life, a 4-star cone that increases the DEF of its user and the DMG RES of all party members. March 7th greatly benefits from anything that increases her DEF stat since it also boosts the effectiveness of her shield.
Landau's Choice is another excellent Light Cone for March and any other tank that doesn't have a taunt ability. It makes the user more likely to be targeted by enemies while also increasing their damage resistance. With this equipped, March 7th can focus on shielding herself.
As for Relics, the Knight of Purity Palace is the best option March has, thanks to its passive bonuses to DEF and Shield Strength. Ideally, players should look for as much DEF and Effect Hit Rate on their individual Relic pieces. Combine these with the Belobog of the Architects Planar Ornament to maximize March 7th's defenses.
