Hook is one of those characters that's easy to overlook. This mischievous little kid might seem harmless, but she's actually the premier ST Fire damage dealer in Honkai: Star Rail 1.0. She can burn and blow up enemies with her Diggertron, and she can handle herself well against groups as well.

Players who need a strong Fire DPS unit in Honkai: Star Rail can't go wrong with building Hook—every bit of her kit is designed to bring the pain. However, as a DPS character, she needs to be built properly in order to really make her shine.

Hook is a Destruction character, which means she's adept at dealing both ST and AOE damage. Players can focus on buffing up her raw attack stats for a general build or focus more on her DoT application for more niche team compositions. Consider using the following on Hook:

  • Core Stat Priorities: CRIT, ATK%, SPD
  • Planar Ornament Stats: Fire DMG, ATK%
  • Relic Sets: Firesmith of Lava-Forging (4PC), Space Sealing Station (2PC)
  • Light Cones: On the Fall of an Aeon (5-Star), The Moles Welcome You (4-Star), Woof! Walk Time! (4-Star)

Players will mainly want to stack as much damage as they can on Hook so she can break Toughness bars more easily. Look for defensive stats on Relic substats to make sure she doesn't get one-shotted in high-level content. Additionally, try to fit in some Effect Hit Rate on Hook's Relics so she can apply Burn more reliably against high-level opponents.

Firesmith of Lava-Forging is the main Relic set for Fire characters. It increases the damage of their next attack after using their Ultimate—this is very good on Hook since this is her entire playstyle. For more upfront damage, swap this for the Musketeer of Wild Wheat set. Should players need more CRIT stats, change the Planar Ornament set to either Inert Salsotto or Celestial Differentiator.

All 5-star Light Cones are good on Hook, but On the Fall of an Aeon works especially well on her since she already relies on repeatedly attacking enemies. The Moles Welcome You can be considered a budget version of the latter, but it works just as well. Woof! Walk Time! is another good choice that's great for F2P players as it enhances its wearer's damage against Burning targets.

Hook Abilities and Trace Leveling Order

Hook's ultimate in Honkai: Star Rail

Hook's job is to deal damage, and that's exactly what all of her abilities do. Leveling her up is pretty straightforward:

  • Boom! Here Comes the Fire! (Ultimate)
  • Hey! Remember Hook? (Skill)
  • Ha! Oil to the Flames! (Talent)
  • Basic attack

Much of Hook's damage comes from using her Skill. This deals good single-target damage. If Hook uses her Ultimate, her Skill becomes enhanced, causing it to deal damage to multiple enemies. As a cherry on top, it also has a 100% base chance to inflict Burn.

Burn plays an important part in Hook's kit. Her Talent makes her deal more Fire DMG when attacking burning targets. She will also regenerate a bit of HP upon triggering her Talent after Hook's first Ascension passive is unlocked. This free damage and healing means players can invest some extra Effect Hit Rate on their stats without losing much DPS and survivability.

As always, take floating stat Traces and Ascension passives whenever the need for them arises.

Honkai: Star Rail is now available on Android, iOS, and PC. A PlayStation version is in development.
