Honkai: Star Rail offers players a wide array of characters to make use of, and players are guaranteed to get a 5-Star character as part of the New Player Banner. One of the possible 5-Star Characters from the New Player Banner is Clara, a Physical Element Path of Destruction Character with strong counterattacks who can serve as an excellent tank.
In Honkai: Star Rail, Clara is a young orphan girl accompanied by an ancient mech named Svarog. Many of Clara's abilities make use of Svarog's powerful offensive and defensive capabilities, and he will attack any foe that attacks Clara automatically. As such, Clara benefits greatly from defensive support to aid her in tanking the enemy while she draws their aggro.
Team Building
Early on in the game, players who have access to Clara will want to pair her with March 7th. They have fantastic synergy together due to March 7th's ability to place shields on allies and then get a free attack whenever that ally is struck. Since Clara is great at Drawing Aggro using her Technique and her Ultimate, and Svarog counterattacks whenever Clara is hit, this means March 7th can put a shield on Clara and then pile on after Svarog's attack to rack up even more damage. The shield also helps to further improve Clara's survivability.
Players who wish to further extend the bonus attack combo should consider adding Herta to this team lineup, as the combined counterattack from Clara and March 7th is likely to drop typical foes below 50% health, triggering her bonus attack and dealing AOE ice damage to all foes. Since Herta and March 7th are both easily accessible early in the game, this is a very effective and easy-to-build early Clara team, and the fourth character slot can be filled by whoever is most beneficial to the current scenario in terms of element and/or utility.
Clara also pairs well with Asta, whose party-wide damage buffs can make those incredible bonus attack chains even more devastating. Pela can also be an excellent choice, reducing enemy defenses and leaving them open to even more damage from counterattacks and March 7th's follow-up shots. Naturally, since Clara's damage output is reliant on her taking hits from enemy attacks, bringing a character with healing abilities can also be very effective. Natasha is a good pick for a healer, providing fantastic single-target and group healing while also having access to an attack debuff via her technique.
A fantastically powerful synergy with Clara comes from the upcoming 5-star character Jing Yuan. Please note that this is based on information from the beta and some details of his move set may change before his release. Jing Yuan has fantastic AOE lightning damage and summons the Lightning-Lord at the start of combat, which performs follow-up attacks striking at the same target as Jing Yuan and also damaging adjacent targets. This pairs well with Clara's raw damage output to rip through enemy health bars at a tremendous pace.
