Almost any team composition will work while going through Honkai: Star Rail's main story and side quests, but one that's properly thought out can carry players well into the difficult endgame where enemies are much harder to take down. Luckily, the current roster of characters offers a variety of options to choose from—this includes Dan Heng, the silent but deadly lancer of the Astral Express.
Having the right build on Dan Heng isn't enough. To operate at peak performance, he needs to be paired with the best teams in Honkai: Star Rail that have the most synergy with what he has to offer. Here are three different setups with Dan Heng as the main carry—just don't forget to allow for some flexibility when choosing characters in order to exploit Elemental Weaknesses.
F2P Balanced Team
This is a standard team comp with one of each character class at the ready. Here, Tingyun will be providing Dan Heng with Energy and ATK buffs to help make his Ultimate stronger and more consistent. This is especially strong with Dan Heng's E4 bonus, which lets him take consecutive turns as long as his Ultimate is able to score killing blows.
- DPS: Dan Heng
- Support:: Tingyun
- Tank: Fire Trailblazer
- Healer: Natasha
Since this is an F2P team, players can swap out characters based on the 5-star units they have on their roster. Bronya is an excellent all-around support who can replace Tingyun's spot, while Bailu can stand in Natasha's place as a more effective AOE healer.
The Permaslow Team
This setup focuses on using Dan Heng and Welt's ability to inflict the Slow debuff and Asta's SPD buffs to keep the team on top of the turn order. It works best against Elites and bosses, especially in the Simulated Universe where players can stack blessings of the Hunt.

- Support 2: Asta

The final slot pick here depends on the situation. If players are unable to keep enemies from taking turns, then having March 7th or a healer would be a wise choice. Otherwise, a third support character like Bronya or Tingyun can help boost Dan Heng's damage without hurting the team's SP economy.
Dan Heng Hypercarry Team Comp
This double Support composition works on almost every DPS unit in the game. The combined ATK buffs from Bronya and Tingyun with their respective CRIT DMG and Energy boosts are great for dealing as much damage as possible to enemies. However, this can be considered a glass cannon setup due to the lack of healing.
- DPS: Dan Heng
- Support 1: Bronya
- Support 2::Tingyun
- Tank: Gepard
Gepard can provide much-needed protection against AOE attacks, while Fire Trailblazer can control where enemy aggro is directed at. March 7th offers the strongest ST shield out of the three, and she can provide debuff cleansing too. Choose whichever tank is more appropriate for the situation.
