Out of all the Erudition characters introduced in the launch of Honkai: Star Rail, Serval might just be the best. She deals significantly more damage than Herta in general play, and unlike Himeko, she is given to everyone for free.
It's easy to overlook Serval in favor of the stronger or more popular DPS characters in Honkai: Star Rail, but anyone who decides to invest in her kit will quickly find that she has plenty to offer across all the available game modes. Here are two team comps to help players get the most value out of this character.
The Best Serval Team Comps In Honkai: Star Rail
As an Erudition unit, Serval's main job is to clear the field of weak enemies by using her strong AOE attacks. What makes her so good, however, is her ability to inflict and maintain the Shock status on targets. This gives her decent single-target damage and a few neat synergies with some of Honkai: Star Rail's other cast members.
DoT Face Melter Team
Serval's ability to inflict Shock is part of what makes her stand out. While most of her damage will still come from her main attacks, Shock ticks can quickly build up and deal surprising damage across the entire fight. This becomes especially powerful with teammates who can stack or buff DoT effects.
- DPS 1: Serval

- Support: Asta
- Tank/Healer: Gepard/Natasha
Sampo can buff the damage of outgoing DoT effects while also inflicting Wind Shear with his Skill, Ricochet Love. Meanwhile, Asta can buff the team's SPD to allow for faster DoT stacking. Either of these two can be replaced by Kafka once she's released. Her entire kit revolves around Shock DMG, making her the ideal partner for Serval in a DoT team.
This team can carry players through the Forgotten Hall, and it is the premier Path of Nihility team for Simulated Universe World 4. Expect this team to become even stronger once more Harmony characters get added to the game.
Main DPS Showstopper Team
Players who want to use Serval as their main DPS unit will want to stack CRIT stats on her Relics instead of the usual ATK/Effect Hit Rate combo. This will make her Shock application less consistent, but it will improve the overall damage she deals with her Skill and Ultimate.

- Healer: Natasha/Bailu
Pela is a solid Support for many teams thanks to her ability to shred enemy DEF. She's especially strong against Elites since she can dispel the buffs they grant to themselves. Other Support characters like Tingyun and Bronya can also fill this role, but keep in mind that Serval won't be able to use their buffs as efficiently as other DPS characters due to her lack of turn reset skills.
Since Serval mostly deals AOE damage, this team might have trouble in the Forgotten Hall or other content where a turn limit is in place. However, it's very strong against encounters that involve minions like the Svarog fight in the SImulated Universe, the weekly Cocolia boss challenge, and any future content that features waves of enemies.
