Supports help bring out the best in other characters in Honkai: Star Rail. They can turn the tide of battle with an array of powerful on-demand buffs that can significantly increase the effectiveness of other units. Having a Support in the team isn't always needed, but it can definitely make fights end faster in favor of the team.

Tingyun is one such Support character. Not only does she buff the ATK values of allies, but she can also charge their Ultimates with her own, resulting in more frequent damage windows for faster clears in the Forgotten Hall or bigger nukes in the Simulated Universe. This character is extremely versatile, and that can lead to some confusion when it comes to picking a team for her, so here's a quick guide to help with that.

Honkai: Star Rail Tingyun Team Comps

Honkai Star Rail - Tingyun Animation

As a Support character, Tingyun can fit in almost every team comp that requires an offensive buffer and Lightning DMG for breaking Toughness bars. So, instead of listing specific team setups, this guide will list the characters in Honkai: Star Rail 1.0 that synergize the most with Tingyun.

  • Bronya - As the only other offensive Support character in the launch version of the game, players can use both Bronya and Tingyun to send a single carry's damage numbers through the roof by using buff skills. The best part about Bronya is her Ultimate, the Belobog March, also increases Tingyun's ATK, which translates to a stronger Benediction effect on the team's designated damage dealer.
  • Dan Heng - With a relatively low base Ultimate Energy cost of 100, Dan Heng can quickly nuke important targets with near-consecutive casts of Ethereal Dream provided Tingyun uses her own Ultimate on him. After casting his Ultimate once, Dan Heng only needs to use one basic attack and one Skill before Tingyun can grant him the remaining Energy he needs for another big damage burst. Asta or Welt can open up more opportunities for this duo to loop their combo together.
  • Seele - Out of all the characters in the game so far, Seele is the only DPS unit that can totally reset their turn. This is different from Advance Forward, as a turn reset means one-turn buffs won't expire for the character's next attack. Simply put, Seele is able to use the extra Lightning DMG portion from Tingyun's Benediction skill several times per turn so long as she can keep her resets going. This gives her time to build up Energy for her Ultimate and generally keep the ball rolling until the combat encounter is resolved.
  • Physical Trailblazer - Speaking of buff efficiency, Physical Trailblazer can increase their own ATK stat up to two times just by breaking enemy Toughness bars. This maximizes the Lightning DMG portion of Tingyun's Benediction skill as it scales off the target's ATK and not the caster's. However, since this part of the buff only lasts for one turn, players should always time its usage whenever Physical Trailblazer's Ultimate is available.

More characters will eventually be added to Honkai: Star Rail, and the list of good teams to build around Tingyun will grow as well. While her ATK buffs are great, there will come a time when other Supports will outclass Tingyun's offensive abilities in terms of raw numbers. When that time comes, players should start using this character more as an Energy Battery that can complement the other Support's abilities.

Honkai Star Rail is available on PC, iOS, and Android. A PlayStation version is in development.
