Back to All Characters

Gepard is an all-around good unit in Honkai: Star Rail that offers a ton of utility without skimping out on staying power. He locks enemies in place as statues of ice while shielding his team from any incoming damage with his Ultimate.

The good captain is a reliable character to have, and he can be even better when combined with the right teammates. As one of the few Preservation characters in the launch version of Honkai: Star Rail, Gepard is capable of being useful in every scenario. However, his specialized kit gives him a number of opportunities to shine in areas where a generalist tank otherwise wouldn't.

Honkai: Star Rail Gepard Team Comps

Gepard is a Tank that focuses on bringing utility and AOE shielding. His main strengths are his ability to inflict the Freeze status with his Skill and provide solid protection to the entire team with his low-cost Ultimate. Players can bring Gepard anywhere, but he does shine the brightest in content where there is a lot of incoming AOE damage, such as boss fights. Here are two niche setups where Gepard particularly excels at.

Yanqing Hypercarry Team Comp

Yanqing in Honkai: Star Rail

The star of this team comp is Yanqing, but Gepard is part of the engine that makes the entire thing work. He can use his Ultimate to keep the feisty Ice swordsman from taking damage, thus preventing his Soulsteel Sync buff from deactivating. Pair this with Gepard and Yanqing's ability to Freeze enemies, and players will be able to get a lot of attacks in before the enemy can retaliate.

  • DPS: Yanqing
  • Tank: Gepard
  • Support: Tingyun/Bronya
  • Any Healer

Gepard is preferred over Fire Trailblazer here because the latter's team-wide shield is too weak to completely block incoming AOE damage and their Taunt skill isn't always guaranteed to proc (especially against bosses). March 7th isn't a bad option, but her shield conflicts with Yanqing's aggro-decreasing passives.

Any Support that can buff Yanqing's damage is also welcome in this setup. If players find that Gepard's shields alone can help the team survive, then they can sacrifice their Healer slot for a second Support unit to maximize DPS.

Simulated Universe Remembrance Freeze Comp

This is a team comp that's specifically built for the Simulated Universe. It involves bringing as many Freeze abilities as possible while taking blessings from the Path of Remembrance with supporting perks from the Path of Preservation. This works best in Worlds where there are many enemies that are weak to Ice, but considering that there's a Remembrance blessing that can implant Ice Weakness, players can take this team anywhere in the SImulated Universe.

  • DPS: Yanqing
  • Tank 1: Gepard
  • Tank 2: March 7th
  • Flex slot (DPS preferred)

Ideally, all characters in the team should deal Ice damage for the sake of synergy with Remembrance blessings, as that's where most of their damage is going to come from. Many of their effects involve permanently freezing enemies while making units deal more damage with the Ice element or against Frozen targets in general.

Players can use the last slot for a Healer, but considering that this is a Double Tank setup, it might be better to get another DPS unit like Herta instead.

This team is very reliant on getting the right blessings, so expect to do a lot of re-rolling. Try to get these as soon as possible:

  • Perfect Experience: Reticence (Freeze enemies after six attacks)
  • Perfect Experience: Innocence (Apply Dissociation on Weakness Break)
  • Ultimate Experience: Dizziness (More DMG vs. Dissociated enemies)
  • Ultimate Experience: Sentimentality (Ice attacks deal AOE damage)
  • Ultimate Experience: Shudder (Implant Ice Weakness after using Ultimate)
  • Experience: Stone Cold Hatred (More Skill/Ult DMG vs. Frozen enemies)
  • Experience: Primordial Hardship (More DMG vs. Frozen enemies)
  • Everything that increases Effect Hit Rate or reduces enemy Freeze RES

Honkai: Star Rail is now available on Android, iOS, and PC. A PlayStation version is in development.
