Yanqing is one of the best single-target DPS characters in Honkai: Star Rail. He can buff his personal damage output to great heights by giving himself those coveted CRIT stats that every DPS carry needs. However, Yanqing can't maintain this power alone, and he needs to have a good team supporting him from behind if he ever wants to resolve combat encounters quickly.

There are plenty of potential team combinations in Honkai: Star Rail, and many more are on the way with the coming of new characters. Players do have some leeway when it comes to making a Yanqing team comp, but there are already some very strong setups that almost anyone can take advantage of, even in the launch version of the game.

Honkai: Star Rail Yanqing Team Comps

Yanqing offers very little outside of dealing damage and freezing enemies, so players will have to double down on him being their team's main DPS character. He is capable of delivering devastating blows with his Ultimate, and his Soulsteel Sync passive effect allows him to provide amazing damage throughout a fight.

Given the generalist nature of this character, players can take Yanqing anywhere and still get value off of him being on the team. With that said, instead of focusing on specific setups, here's a list of characters that Yanqing has very high synergy with to help players make their own team comps.

  • Gepard - As of the launch version of the game, Gepard is the premier Tank character to pair with Yanqing. His Ultimate's shield is strong enough to keep Yanqing from taking damage, thus preventing Soulsteel Sync from going offline. Additionally, they can both Freeze targets, making them a surprisingly effective crowd-control duo, especially in the Simulated Universe. March 7th is a very close alternative to Gepard, though players will miss out on group shielding when using her.
  • Bronya - In general, any Support character that can buff Yanqing's already-impressive CRIT DMG is going to be a good pick. Bronya provides this and a healthy ATK bump that can help Yanqing reach absurd damage numbers. Her ability to move Yanqing's turn forward is a nice bonus that can help keep enemies frozen or give the swordsman more opportunities to attack.
  • Tingyun - Much like Bronya, Tingyun is an excellent character to pair with any damage dealer. What makes this Foxian beauty work so well with Yanqing is her Ultimate, which can restore 50 points of Energy to help meet the latter's massive 130 Energy requirement. This means more Ultimates for Yanqing and quicker fights for players.
  • Pela - In harder content like Memory of Chaos, players will run into enemies with high defenses—Pela can shred these to help Yanqing deal much more damage than usual. This unit is also Skill Point neutral since her Skill is reserved for finishing off enemies or removing buffs, making her a great secondary Support who can funnel SP toward Yanqing's resource-hungry playstyle.

The most important part about building a Yanqing comp is to have someone who can keep him from taking damage. Soulsteel Sync only deactivates when Yanqing's HP is hit, which means shields or any other effect that keeps him safe from harm will do wonders for his overall DPS output.

Honkai: Star Rail is now available on Android, iOS, and PC. A PlayStation version is in development.
