Star Wars Jedi: Survivor continues the story of Cal Kestis and the crew of the Mantis in an awesome tale surrounding areas of the Star Wars universe that haven't been shown in canon - most notably the High Republic. Cal is learning to master his skills in Jedi Survivor and, in the process, picks up a few new lightsaber stances for players to try - these are; single-blade, double-blade, dual-wield, blaster, and crossguard.

This guide will show players how to unlock each stance and the best scenarios for each. Generally, it comes down to the player as to which they prefer, as there is no "best" stance in the game.

These are all unlocked through the main story campaign. This guide will not contain any major story information or spoilers (other than locations).

Single Blade Stance

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Single Blade Stance

The single-blade stance is the simplest stance of the 5 available. However, this is not a bad thing, as it allows players to thrive in almost any setting.

As a "jack of all trades, master of none," the single blade can get boring at times, but with some unlocks from the skill tree, it starts to shine and become extremely powerful in the right hands.

This stance is unlocked right at the start of the game and is a great introduction to the combat system and improvements from the previous game.

The single blade pairs well with almost any other stance as its versatility allow the player to choose another option that fits their play style without needing to consider every scenario.

Double Blade Stance

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Double Blade Stance

The double blade is the Darth Maul approach to combat. This staff saber allows the player to attack a wide area and eliminate multiple enemies with a single swing.

The lightsaber throw ability is also a great crowd control move as the lightsaber completes a full 360 around the player. This deals high damage and can be upgraded through the skill tree.

Although this stance is featured in Fallen Order, it has some major upgrades to improve the overall feel and damage output.

As this stance focuses on crowd control and dealing damage to large groups, it pairs well with a stance that deals high single-swing damage and defense. The crossguard stance or blaster stance is a good option here.

The double-blade stance is unlocked shortly after the single-blade during the first mission on Coruscant.

Dual Wield Stance

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Dual Wield Stance

The Dual wield stance is the first new stance players unlock in Jedi Survivor. If the player is looking to imitate the Ashoka Tano way of fighting, this is the way to go.

This stance focuses on high damage output with fast attacks and dodges and is great to taking on difficult enemies in close range.

This stance does require a high-risk, high-reward play style as it puts the player in very close range of the enemy. Pairing this with the blaster stance makes for a deadly multi-range loadout that is ready to take on an enemy type of encounter.

This stance is unlocked between Coruscant and Koboh and is the third addition to the roster. This means the player finally has to make a decision as to which 2 stances they wish to use.

Blaster Stance

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Blaster stance

Although this stance does feature a blaster, it is considered a lightsaber stance in-game. This allows Cal to wield a heavy-hitting blaster alongside the iconic lightsaber.

Although Cal is initially conflicted when handed the blaster, he still chooses to use it as he moves further away from the traditional teachings of the Jedi order. This stance adds some ranged attacks to Cal's loadout, allowing for a slightly more versatile play style.

This can be extremely helpful against some difficult bosses as it allows the player to stay out of danger and still deal damage. However, this stance does limit Cal's lightsaber attacks at close range.

The blaster stance gets exponentially more powerful with upgrades on the skill tree. Although this stance may seem fairly lackluster at first, it definitely becomes one of the most powerful with upgrades and perks such as Ricochet.

Players can unlock the blaster stance in their first trip to Jedha as part of the main story. This comes as a gift from Bode, one of Cal's companions in Jedi Survivor.

Crossguard Stance

Star Wars Jedi Survivor how to unlock all Stances

The final stance players will unlock in Jedi Survivor is the Crossguard stance. This is a design that was popularized by Kylo Ren in the sequel trilogy.

This stance comes with much heavier hits and a stronger defense. However, this does come at a price with much slower attacks that can easily be countered by enemies.

Some enemies will die from a single hit from this blade, making the timing of the swing crucial. For skilled players, this will be easy, but it can take some time to master for more novice players.

As the player unlocks more skills in the skill tree, the crossguard stance becomes much more versatile and allows the player to use abilities that cannot be found in other stances.

It's recommended that the player uses this against difficult enemies and single targets, as the crossguard does not excel in large-scale combat. Pairing this with the dual wield stance or double blade can mitigate this issue.

To unlock the crossguard, the player must progress the story and unlock the broken moon location after their first trip to Jedha.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
