Dead Island 2 is full of secrets, lore, and unlockable items that enhance the storyline and fill in some of the missing details that led to the current state of Los Angeles in the Zombie-slasher. One example is the sKOpe machines found in almost every house or safe zone throughout the city.

While the electronic devices are seen very early in the game, players won't have any luck using them until they complete a late-game mission. Despite this, their presence throughout the map may leave players wondering about their purpose. So, this guide covers everything players need to know about sKOpes in Dead Island 2.

What are sKOpes Used For in Dead Island 2?

SKOpes are small communication devices found in most houses throughout Hell-A. The first sKOpe players will probably see is in Emma Jaunt's home in Bel-Air near the workbench and the bar. However, it flashes a red message saying the server is down whenever they approach.

The key to getting the sKOpe servers back in Dead Island 2 is the 21 mission called Search For Truth. During this mission, players are sent to the OSK store, a shop specializing in communication devices, phones, and tablets. It is also the epicenter for all things sKOpe related.

At the OSK store, they must restore server power by rebooting the system. The only way to access the servers is to gain access to the Server Room using the security Key Card. This Key Card is found on an old employee named Henry, who is hanging out in the alley behind the store. A few other Zombies players will confront, including a Spiky Runner and a Swarm Walker.

After getting the key, players can go into the Server Room and fix it:

  1. Find the electricity panel at the back of the room on the wall and pull the lever to send power to the server system.
  2. Flip the switch on the system to restore the Servers to normal.
  3. To finish their time in the OSK store, players must kill all the Zombies in the storefront and then talk to the sKOPe systems there.

Whenever this part of the mission is complete in Dead Island 2, players can access all the other sKOpes around Los Angeles. The sKOpes primary purpose is to provide more information on the area, characters, and lore behind the Zombie outbreak. In addition, each sKOpe they activate gives them a journal entry toward the Bookworm achievement/trophy. There are 25 total sKOpe locations in Dead Island 2, although some are only available after finishing specific missions.

Dead Island 2 is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
