Dead Island 2 isn't an open world game, but it still features large, open zones for players to explore and getting around can take some time. Luckily, there is a way for Dead Island 2 players to fast-travel in the game, though it's not an option at the start. Players need to progress to a certain point in the Dead Island 2 story to unlock the ability to fast-travel and get around zombie-filled Los Angeles a little quicker.

To unlock fast-travel in Dead Island 2, players need to progress to The Red Mist quest in the main story. After completing the quest, a prompt will appear on the screen telling players that they can use the nearby map to fast-travel. This all goes down in the Blue Crab Restaurant, so anyone trying to find the first available fast-travel map in Dead Island 2 should look there in case they left without using it.

After the prompt appears, walk up to the fast-travel map and use it to travel between locations. Players can't simply open their Dead Island 2 map and fast-travel from that screen; they have to physically travel to these fast-travel maps to use them. The fast-travel maps in Dead Island 2 are typically found in safe rooms and while they won't completely cut down on how much players have to walk around, they will still make getting from point A to point B a lot faster.

  • Use maps at safe houses to fast-travel

Fast-traveling isn't the only feature Dead Island 2 blocks behind progress. In fact, unlocking co-op in Dead Island 2 also requires players to progress to a certain point in the main storyline. Luckily, players are able to unlock co-op in Dead Island 2 a lot earlier than they unlock fast-traveling, with co-op unlocked once players start up the fourth mission in the game.

Players will find that guns in Dead Island 2 are also locked behind progress. Some time after they've unlocked co-op, players will get a quest that has them collect their first gun. From that point on, they should be able to find guns in the game world. Fast-traveling is unlocked after co-op and guns.

Because of this, it may be best for Dead Island 2 players to prioritize completing the main story quests before worrying about other content like side quests, Lost and Found missions, etc. This way players will be better equipped to handle the game's challenges, like taking out the powerful special zombies in Dead Island 2.

Dead Island 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
