Dead Island 2 features hordes of zombies that can be smashed in various violent ways that the series is known for but has replaced the island with the homes of the rich and the famous in southern California. The plan of attack to take down these undead enemies remains the same, with a focus on melee attacks alongside a few guns.

Blunt and piercing weapons are much easier to come by in Dead Island 2 than firearms and ammo, so it is best to learn how to fight in close-quarters combat efficiently. Stamina decreases with every swing, so hacking away at a group of zombies will leave players extremely vulnerable to damage and will not survive long. No matter which Dead Island 2 character players choose, all of them have the ability to dodge. This guide will show players how to dodge and follow up with a counterattack.

How to Dodge in Dead Island 2

Dodging allows players to simply take a step back as zombies and other enemies lunge at them. It is very effective against slow-moving zombies, and it is easy to tell when their attacks will land. Dodging is a great move to decrease the chances of taking damage and also reassess the battle if there are too many Dead Isand 2 zombies to deal with at once.

Players can dodge in Dead Island 2 by pressing the LB/L1 button while moving the left control stick in the direction in which to move to. If done successfully, the character will move out of the way and not receive any damage. All types of enemies have different methods of attacking, so learning the timing for each is key to survival.

If players dodge just before the attack is supposed to hit, the enemy will be stunned for a few seconds, and a button prompt will appear. Activating the button prompt will cause a giant melee attack that will deal more damage than basic swiping attacks.

Dodging is one of the first abilities learned in Dead Island 2 once the player reaches Level 2 or opens the gate to the first mansion very early in the game. The dodge is an Ability Skill Card that is automatically equipped when unlocked, though can be switched out with the ability to block once learned. Although, players will not be able to do both abilities and will have to pick between dodging or blocking.

Dead Island 2 is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
