The zombie hordes are coming in Dead Island 2. While guns have always been the trusted weapon in pop culture to deal with the undead, that is not always a readily available option in Dambuster Studios' latest title. Instead, improvised and modded weapons are the way to go for those looking to survive in the streets of Hell-A.
To truly thrive in the post-apocalyptic world, players must learn and master the weapon upgrading system in Dead Island 2. For those looking to get up to speed, this guide will have everything essential to know about how to upgrade and repair weapons.
How to Upgrade & Repair Weapons in Dead Island 2
Although there are makeshift weapons like steel pipes and burnt timber that can be used to fight, success in Dead Island 2 will depend on the arsenal of customizable weapons that fall into Uncommon, Rare, and Superior tiers. With these weapons in tow, head to the nearest workbench, denoted by the wrench and hammer icon on the map.
Repairing Weapons
Approach the workbench to check out all the weapons that can get repaired. Each weapon will have a bar that shows its current durability, and restoring it is easily done by holding the Cross/A button and spending the cash amount shown in the middle.
Keeping all weapons in good shape means that there will also be dependable options against the plethora of Dead Island 2 enemies that can stand in the way.
Upgrading Weapons
Beyond just repairing, there is much more fun to be had in modding and upgrading weapons. First, if there is a favored weapon that is just not cutting it anymore, Dead Island 2 offers the option to raise its level to match the current player level. This can be done by holding either the Square or X button, but be warned, the price can often be high and is displayed on the right below the Power of the weapon.
If mods and perks are more of a concern, jump into the upgrade menu with the Triangle/Y button. Depending on the type of weapon, be it a Headhunter, Frenzy, Maiming, or Bulldozer type, players can choose from various mods. Perks, on the other hand, can be applied to any of the weapons to further complement a Slayer's skills.
While the monetary cost is usually negligible, it is vital to note the resources required to install the mods, such as Fabric, Scrap, Metal Parts, etc.
As a rule, always stock up on these resources by collecting everything in sight. However, if there is a particular resource that is in low supply, the game also helpfully provides a guide on the sources. Simply head into the inventory and press Square/X when highlighting a resource, and it will pull up a list that players can count on to bolster their collection.
This way, weapons can be upgraded to possess more Power (which means more damage) but also gain other effects like elemental damage, more force, durability, speed, and more.
