The Zombie Parts system in Dead Island 2 is an incredibly morbid mechanic with some really interesting concepts. Basically, at a certain point in the game, players will unlock the ability to use different mutations in different zombies to create specific Autophage Perks and Skills for weapons. To do this, they'll need to collect all sorts of anatomical nightmares from Oversized Arm Bones to Electrified Brains, Mutated Hearts, and even Infected Flesh.

All of these parts have different chances to drop from different zombie types. For example, Electrified Brains can only drop from Voltaic Screamers, but most zombies in Dead Island 2 can drop Infected Flesh. So, let's go over exactly what this Part is, what it's used for, and where to get it.

Infected Flesh 'Material' Explanation & Where To Find It

Dead Island 2 has 5 different Rarity types for its items and equipment; Common, Uncommon, Rare, Superior, and Legendary. While only weapons can go up to Legendary, everything else has an assigned Rarity, and Zombie Parts are no different.

While it's true that Infected Flesh can drop from these 14 different zombie types:

  • Walkers
  • Spiky Walkers
  • Shocking Walkers
  • Swarm Walkers
  • Grenadier Walkers
  • Incendiary Walkers
  • Firefighter Walkers
  • Caustic-X Walkers
  • Hazmat Walkers
  • Burning Walkers
  • Riot Gear Walkers
  • Hydration Walkers
  • Shamblers
  • Bursters

There's no real 'method' for farming Infected Flesh other than killing a bunch of these zombie types. Infected Flesh is a Common resource, which makes sense given how many sources players have to get it from, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily 'easy' to get. Unlike Oversized Arm Bones, players can't break a Walker's arms to get them to drop their Flesh easier.

So, for everyone looking this up to try and see if there's a 'faster' way to complete the first step of Francesca's Body Art Side Quest in Beverly Hills, there sadly isn't. Instead, it's easier to just accept this Quest and leave it alone or Pin the Autophage Perk recipe that uses Infected Flesh and then just keep playing the game without worrying about it. Because, as long as players are keeping an eye out for Zombie Part drops in general (and not avoiding combat as a whole), they'll steadily gain a sizeable hoard of Infected Flesh over time.

Infected Flesh Purpose & Usage

Infected Flesh really only has one 'purpose', it's one of the baseline Crafting Materials used for many of the different Autophage Perks for both melee and ranged weapons. Outside of this, Infected Flesh isn't worth much else. It doesn't sell for much, it can't be 'used' anywhere else, and players will only need at least 10 of it for one specific step of a Side Quest.

Despite all this, players still will want to build the biggest pile of Infected Flesh that they can, simply because of how often they'll be trying out and messing around with Autophage Weapon Mods. Just to give a clearer picture of how many Blueprints this resource is used in:

Blueprint Name

To build one of every Blueprint listed above, players would need almost a full stack of 99 bits of Flesh (78, to be more precise). And, let's be honest, players aren't going to use every blueprint only once for one weapon, so multiply this number by another 2, 3, or 4 times. At the end of the day, it's pretty safe to say Infected Flesh is used quite often for a 'Common' Material.

Dead Island 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
