Part of the enduring fun in Dead Island 2 is the many ways in which players can send the undead back where they belong. From using environmental hazards to all kinds of weaponry, there are always ways in which to ensure engaging destruction. Yet, sometimes, the tables are turned, with the zombies having some tricks of their own, especially with the Apex variants.

Evolved from the regular undead populating Hell-A, a part of the Apex army is the Burster. These are volatile creatures that are never going to hesitate when they catch sight of a human. Be wary of these monsters in close quarters, and as much as possible, stay far, far away. What are Bursters in Dead Island 2

Defeating Bursters in Dead Island 2

The Apex known as Bursters are bloated beings, filled with explosive gas and infectious black ichor that can spread the zombie plague even more, which thankfully doesn't affect Slayers since they have immunity. However, do expect to see a big explosion if they get too close, which is why being trapped with a Burster is never a good time.

How to Defeat Bursters in Dead Island 2

It is clear the best way to deal with these creatures is at range; however, that may not always be possible. To help players learn the strategy to fight the Bursters, here are some key tips to remember:

  • Bursters are weak to both Shock and Projectile damage, so any weapon that can do that, including firearms, will help. Drain their stability to cause them to fall over and explode.
  • Burster explosions are not just harmful to the player but are also dangerous to its undead brethren. Use this to clear large groups of enemies with relative ease.
  • The explosion can be further exploited as a Burster can easily be tainted by other damage effects. As an example, an Electrified Burster explosion will spread the joy of electricity to others caught in its blast.
  • Use Kicks to get some distance between the Burster and the Slayer, or use Dash Strike to send it flying into its friends for some fantastic gorey sights.

Smart use of other tools, such as Curveballs and the environment, will always help against the Bursters, and the further away players are, the better the chances of not being covered in bloody guts when this creature is taken care of.

Dead Island 2 is available now on April 21 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
