Dead Island 2 takes place in the quarantined zone of Los Angeles, affectionately known as Hell-A, so it is not surprising that part of the game has players visiting movie sets to kill zombies and rescue survivors. The second boss fight in the game happens on the Rise of the God-Spider set, though players will not be fighting a giant spider.

The boss is instead Alesis Hernandez, a Slobber Apex zombie that can puke caustic bile around itself and even throw it at players to poison them with damage over time. It is not an especially difficult enemy to defeat in Dead Island 2, but requires a bit of patience and being aware of one's surroundings. This guide will show players which of Alesis Hernandez's attacks to watch out for, which weapons to bring, and how to defeat the boss quickly.

How to Beat Alesis Hernandez in Dead Island 2

The Rise of the God-Spider movie set during the Michael Anders and the Holy Grail quest is a wide open area that allows players to move around freely without getting stuck in a corner. This is helpful because even though the boss is very slow, its attacks and other factors require players to stay on their toes. Here are some strategies and tips to beat Alesis Hernandez in a short time.

Stay Close

Alesis Hernandez uses Slobber attacks and will mostly puke poisonous bile wherever it walks. Despite the warning, the best place to attack it from is up close. It is very slow in moving and most of the time will puke in one direction, leaving Hernandez's back vulnerable.

The best time to attack is when it is puking, so players should circle around to its back and slash away at its head with any melee weapon for a chance to deal critical hits. Players will need to watch where they are stepping, however, or risk continually receiving damage from the bile on the ground. Staying close also stops Hernandez from throwing its bile, which can also cause additional direct damage.

Be Prepared

Players should be stocked up on medical kits and a full inventory of melee weapons before tackling Alesis Hernandez to avoid scavenging during the fight. There is an open door on the right side of the building that contains a medical kit if players are low on health.

The weapons will be necessary when other zombies will inevitably join the fight, so players should have a full inventory and several weapons upgraded. These lesser zombies should be taken out as quickly as possible, or players will get swarmed by the combination of the horde and the bile being thrown by the boss, which also slows the player's character down.

There are special FX stations placed around the makeshift arena that could act as traps for the zombies and even cause some damage to Hernandez. The stations can make it rain water, spit venom from the giant spider, and spout fire from the ground. There's also a one-time-use FX station that blows up a truck. These will most likely be used sparingly, depending on how many zombies the player is facing at any given moment.

Dead Island 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
