Dead Island 2 has many lockboxes which require hidden keys to open them to reveal some special, secret loot. Beverly Hills has several lockboxes for players to find and open, including a key inside Michael Ander's house, one of the key supporting characters players encounter in Dead Island 2's main story.
Players first find Michael's safe in the 'O Michael, Where Art Thou?' story mission. However, the key is nowhere to be found inside Michael's house, so players need to find and kill a particular named zombie to get it. Fortunately, it’s not as tricky as it might seem. Here's how to get this lock box open, and what players can expect to find inside.
Where To Find Michael's Safe (Lockbox Location)
Players must reach Beverly Hills in the early stages of the main story to enter Michael's house, which is located in the north end of Beverly Hills. There, they can find his safe. Players must enter Michael's house through the window and can locate Michael's safe tucked inside a shelf in the living room.
Where To Find Michael's Safe Key In Dead Island 2
To get Michael's safe key, head to the house next door to Michael's to search for a zombie called Michael's Protege. It's best to do this after defending Jessie Kwon's house during 'O Michael, Where Art Thou?' to ensure that this zombie spawns. The area seems to be a magnet for zombies, with several of Dead Island 2's screamer zombies appearing here if players search for Michael's keys later in the game.
Michael's Protege can appear anywhere outside the house, and will drop Michael's safe key when defeated. For instance, if players head for the garage first, it's likely to show up there when players start killing groups of zombies.
What's Inside Michael's Safe?
Head back to Michael's safe to open it and get a rare melee weapon called the Defiant Hunting Knife. Some players might consider it one of Dead Island 2's best melee weapons early in the game. Its fast handling defeats many types of zombies in only a few swipes, making it an excellent weapon to wipe the floor with tough zombies like crushers.
Players can also significantly improve the Defiant Hunting Knife's power by adding a mod like the Damaging or Mutilator mod. However, if players get the knife later in the game, it has a higher power to match level, so it may be worth opening the lock box later once players get closer to Dead Island 2's max level. Trust Michael to have such a great weapon locked away.
Dead Island 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
