Dead Island 2 has hidden most of its special weapons and mods in locked chests or boxes that require specific keys to open. While some of these lockboxes can be unlocked with keys found by defeating nearby enemies or earned by completing a series of side quests, others will require players to return to the area after getting deeper into the story.
The Fancy Leather Trunk that players will encounter near the beginning of Dead Island 2 falls under the latter. This guide will help players know when the Fancy Leather Trunk Key will be available to get, where the trunk is located, and what is inside.
How To Get The Fancy Leather Trunk Key In Dead Island 2
Dead Island 2 players can receive the Fancy Leather Trunk Key by defeating the Mutated Guest special zombie located at the Halperin Hotel. While players will visit the location in one of the missions early on in the game, the Mutated Guest will not be there. The special zombie will only spawn after players have completed the 21st main story mission in the game, The Search for Truth.
Once the main mission is completed, players will have to fast travel back to the Halperin Hotel area. The fast travel point will be on the second floor of the hotel, and the Mutated Guest will be on the third floor. Walk out of the fast travel room and climb up the open elevator shaft to the third floor.
The Mutated Guest will be hanging out in the middle of the hallway, and its name will be displayed above its health bar. Be sure to equip the best weapons and use Fury Mode when available to whittle down the tank-like zombie. The Mutated Guest will drop the Fancy Leather Trunk Key when defeated.
Fancy Leather Trunk Location
The Fancy Leather Trunk is located on the third floor of the Halperin Hotel, and is not far from where the Mutated Guest was standing. Simply continue down the hallway where the special zombie was, and it will end in an elevator lobby. The trunk will be in the corner opposite of the elevators.
Opening the Fancy Leather Trunk will reward players with the Tenacious weapon perk blueprint. The blueprint will give players a moderate boost to damage and use less stamina while low on health when using a weapon with the perk attached to it.
