How to Manually Save in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
We'll go over how auto-saving works in the next section, but Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players have the option to manually save their game anytime they are out in the field. To do so, follow these steps:
- Open the main menu by pressing the X button.
- Press R or go down to select the Save option.
- The game will ask players if they would like to save their adventure so far.
- Choose Yes, and the game will save progress made so far.
- Make sure not to turn off the power or take out the cartridge while the game is saving.
How Auto-Save Works in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Whenever Pokemon trainers do something important in Scarlet & Violet, a message will appear in the top-left corner of the screen that says, 'Now Saving...' When this is shown, the game is automatically saving progress. Players that don't want their progress to be autosaved can turn it off in the Options menu. To do so, follow these steps:
- Open the main menu with the X button.
- Choose Options.
- Scroll down to the Autosave toggle and then switch it to Off.

Like past Pokemon games on the Switch, there is only one save file per Nintendo account. This means that if User A purchases Pokemon Scarlet, User B can start the same application and have their own save. The only way for a player to start the game from scratch is to erase their saved data in the Switch's settings.
