After Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players take down all five Team Star bases as part of the Starfall Street path, they'll need to take down the real boss of the entire scheme, Cassiopeia. The leader will summon players to the academy schoolyard to face them in a final Pokemon battle, and they want Clive to come along as well.

Players' maps will be marked with the battle location, so just head back to Mesagoza and enter the front gate of the academy. Before players get inside, however, they'll have to battle against someone they might not have expected to fight: Clive, otherwise known as Director Clavell. This Pokemon Scarlet & Violet guide will give players the upper hand with tips on how to take down Clavell's surprisingly strong team of pocket monsters.

Director Clavell will have six level 60+ Pokemon on his team, no matter which version players are playing. However, his team can slightly change depending on the starter Pokemon that players chose at the beginning of the adventure.

  • If you chose Fuecoco, the team lineup is: Oranguru, Abomasnow, Polteageist, Houndoom, Amoonguss, and Quaquaval.
  • If you chose Sprigatito, his team would be: Oranguru, Abomasnow, Polteageist, Amoonguss, Gyarados, and Skeledirge.
  • If you choose Quaxly, his team is: Oranguru, Abomasnow, Polteageist, Gyarados, Houndoom, and Meowscarada.

The Pokemon that are a constant on the team are Oranguru, Abomasnow, and Polteageist. Below, we have a list of every possible Pokemon on Clavell's team, along with their types, movesets, and weaknesses.

  • It seems that Director Clavell will always send out his Oranguru first, so be sure to counter it with a powerful Pokemon that has access to a weighty Dark or Bug-type move. Those are Oranguru's only weaknesses. Also, watch out for its Yawn/Dream Eater combo.
  • As for Abomasnow, it has so many weaknesses that can bring it down, but a strong Fire-type move should knock it out immediately. Its other weaknesses are Fighting, Poison, Flying, Bug, Rock, and Steel. However, Wood Hammer and Blizzard are two pretty powerful Grass and Ice-type moves, respectively, so if any Pokemon on a player's team is weak to either move, don't let it come near Abomasnow.
  • Gyrados can be really annoying due to the variety of types in their moveset. Earthquake can be devasting to the right Fire/Electric/Poison/Steel/Rock-type Pokemon, so try and avoid using any of those against the evolved form of Magikarp. It also has access to very strong Dark, Rock, and Water-type moves, so plan accordingly. Gyrados' main weakness is Electric, so aim for that.
  • Polteageist can be dealt with easily enough with a good ol' Ghost or Dark-type move. The teacup Pokemon's normal Defense is pretty low, while its Special Defense is fairly high, so try and go for the physical damage moves.
  • Be aware that Houndoom's four moves that are all different types. It has Dark, Electric, Poison, and Fire-type moves, so be careful about which Pokemon to choose for the fight. However, with Houndoom having plenty of weaknesses, it shouldn't be a tough battle.
  • Amoonguss also has a lot of weaknesses (Fire, Ice, Flying, Psychic), and its defense is fairly low, so a strong physical move from one of these types should get the job done. However, it can easily paralyze and poison Pokemon in battle, so be wary and maybe keep some Antidotes, Paralyze Heals, and/or Full Heals.
  • To get rid of one of the three possible starter evolutions, Skeledirge, Meowscarada, and Quaquaval, just try and have the main weakness on your team. Skeledirge is weak to Water, Mewoscarada is weak to Fire, and Quaquaval is weak to Grass.

After taking down the director, players can finally battle against the real Cassiopeia, who acts as the final battle of the Starfall Street story path.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available for the Nintendo Switch.
