It's not uncommon for Pokemon games to freshen up old evolutionary lines with brand-new evolutions, and this is once again the case in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. The games don't feature quite as many cross-generation evolutions as some of their predecessors, but there are still several interesting additions to the Pokedex nonetheless, with Pokemon from several past generations benefiting from powerful new forms.

Though one or two of them are a little hard to come by naturally due to the unusual methods needed to evolve them, players should have relatively little trouble getting every new evolution in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet once they know exactly what is required in order to evolve them. There are five Pokemon with new evolutions in total, all of which are available across both games.

Paldean Wooper → Clodsire

How to Evolve Paldean Wooper into Clodsire in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Wooper is one of only two Pokemon who received a Paldean form in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Like many of the regional Pokemon that came before it, it also benefits from a unique evolution, with Paldean Wooper evolving into Clodsire at level 20 rather than the Quagsire that its Johtonian relative would typically become. Players can find Paldean Wooper in all five areas of South Province, with the cute little Poison/Ground-type typically hanging out near bodies of water.

Primeape → Annihilape

How to Evolve Primeape into Annihilape in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Primeape is the oldest Pokemon to receive a new evolution in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, with the Gen 1 Fighting-type now able to evolve into Annihilape. To trigger the evolution, players will simply need to have Primeape use the move Rage Fist twenty times. It learns the attack at level 35, meaning that players could theoretically evolve Primeape into Annihilape at that very level. Players can find Primeape in West Province (Area Three) as well as in areas one and two of North Province.

Dunsparce → Dudunsparce

How to Evolve Dunsparce into Dudunsparce in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Dunsparce will evolve into Dudunsparce after it learns the move Hyper Drill, which occurs naturally when the Pokemon reaches level 32. Those who choose not to teach Dunsparce Hyper Drill or catch one that's higher than level 32 will only be able to evolve it by having Dunsparce remember the move through the check summary menu and then leveling it up again. Players can find Dunsparce all over Paldea, though it will dig a hole and flee upon being approached, so they'll need to be quick if they want to catch it.

Girafarig → Farigiraf

How to Evolve Girafarig into Farigiraf in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Girafarig will evolve into Farigiraf immediately after learning Twin Beam, which usually takes place at level 32. If players choose not to learn Twin Beam or catch a Girafarig that's higher than level 32, they'll only be able to evolve it by having Girafarig remember the move through the menu and then leveling it up again. Players can catch Girafarig in West Province (Area 2) in the area surrounding Porto Marinada.

Bisharp → Kingambit

How to Evolve Bisharp into Kingambit in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

In order to evolve Bisharp into Kingambit, players will first need to catch themselves a Bisharp that's holding a Leader Crest. These can be found fairly easily in the Fury Falls area in northeast Paldea and are usually surrounded by small groups of Pawniard. Once they've caught one, they'll then need to use it to defeat four other Bisharp that are holding Leader Crests and then level it up to make it evolve. It can really help to teach it a Fighting-type move while battling other Bisharp, with Low Sweep and Brick Brake both being super effective.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
