Pokemon were lucky if they got an accompanying Paradox Pokemon, but Volcarona was lucky enough to actually get two with Iron Moth and Slither Wing. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players can get a Paradox Pokemon version of Volcarona, regardless of which version they’re playing.

Volcarona has always inhabited an odd space where it is treated similar to a pseudo-legendary Pokemon like Dragonite or Tyranitar despite only having a two-stage evolution and lacking the 600 total base stats that make them so powerful. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet put some respect on Volcarona’s name, though. Volcarona is one of the few Pokemon to have two different Paradox versions.

Not everyone has the ability to get Iron Moth, the futuristic version. Here’s how to catch it, and how it stacks up against its siblings.

How to Catch Iron Moth in Pokemon Violet

Pokemon Violet players can find Iron Moth in Area Zero. Players don’t have access to Area Zero until reaching the game’s final mission, The Way Home. This sees players explore the Great Crater of Paldea and encounter a number of Paradox Pokemon. In Pokemon Violet, these are more advanced and more powerful forms of familiar Pokemon.

Iron Moth can be found in multiple spots across Area Zero, but the easiest place to find Iron Moth is around Research Station No. 2. After reaching the station, there is a craggy hill that can be seen in the distance. Head towards it and take a left over the rocky bridge. The area is rife with Iron Moths and players can also find Paradox Tyranitar, Iron Thorns in this area.

Can You Catch Iron Moth in Pokemon Scarlet?

Players cannot catch Iron Moth in Pokemon Scarlet. Iron Moth is a Pokemon Violet-exclusive and is not available in Tera Raid battles, so the only options for getting one is trading or joining another player in a Union Circle session and heading to Area Zero. Players with Nintendo Switch Online can use the community-endorsed Link Codes to quickly find a trade partner.

Who is Best Between Volcarona, Iron Moth, and Slither Wing?

Iron Moth might just be the best moth-like Pokemon in all of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Iron Moth has a higher base stat total than Volcarona with a higher base speed stat, making it a more threatening sweeper. It also retains access to Quiver Dance, an excellent move that boosts Sp. Attack and Speed.

Past Pokemon Scarlet Paradox Pokemon Slither Wing and powerful gen-five Pokemon Volcarona are both still potentially useful in ranked battles, and different teams may find any one of the three to be most beneficial. Iron Moth is still an ideal special sweeper that can devastate enemy teams that aren’t prepared for it.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
