Paradox Pokemon are coming to competitive battling in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, and Iron Jugulis has the potential to shake things up in a big way. The Paradox form of Hydreigon has all the tools it needs to become a serious force in both singles and doubles.

All of the Paradox Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are powerful to some degree, with each one having base stats that total either 570 or 600. Those are numbers on par with the Ultra Beasts and fearsome sub-legendaries like Landorus-Therian and Zapdos, and instantly make all of them a threat.

Iron Jugulis is one of the most interesting Paradox Pokemon from a competitive battling perspective. Its dark-flying typing is reminiscent of top-tier Pokemon such as Galarian Moltres, Yveltal, and Murkrow, and its mix of speed and firepower has strong potential. Here’s how to catch the Pokemon and how it may hold up competitively.

How to Catch Iron Jugulis in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Iron Jugulis cannot be caught in Pokemon Scarlet. In Pokemon Violet, it can be found the depths of Area Zero. As with all other Paradox Pokemon, Iron Jugulis is a version-exclusive Pokemon first found during The Way Home mission.

Iron Jugulis and the other futuristic “Iron” Pokemon can only be found in Pokemon Violet, while the more primitive ancient Pokemon are exclusive to Pokemon Scarlet. Iron Jugulis in particular is found in the lower depths of Area Zero and is a rare spawn in several locations.

The best way to find one is to teleport to Research Station No. 4 and keep heading down. The Pokemon has a chance of appearing on the crystalline bridges that lead to the bottom of the crater and can appear at the bottom of the crater around where the player faces the AI version of Professor Turo. The Pokemon spawns individually, and will not appear in packs the way Gible and Dreepy in this area do.

Is Iron Jugulis Better Than Hydreigon?

Iron Jugulis is a powerful Pokemon but lacks the versatility and power of Hydreigon. This likely makes Iron Jugulis a worse version of Hydreigon, despite what the game’s story might suggest.

Hydreigon In The Pokemon Anime

The two Pokemon have generally similar stats and move sets, with Iron Jugulis being slightly faster but slightly less bulky. They have similar movesets, with the notable exception of Iron Jugulis not having access to Draco Meteor. The loss of Draco Meteor takes away Hydreigon’s hardest-hitting move, making it much less offensively threatening. Iron Jugulis could still see some play, but it’s unlikely to replace Hydreigon.
