Grimer and Muk have never been especially popular, but they’re still OG poison Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Many players have found themselves scratching their heads over how to evolve their Grimer, though.

Grimer has never been a glamorous Pokemon, given the fact that it’s nothing but a sentient pile of goo. Muk’s solid bulk and high attack stat allow it to soak up damage and hit opponents hard, making it viable in certain situations in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

Grimer isn’t particularly easy to get, though. Players will likely need to commit to adding the grungy Pokemon to their team and evolving it in order to get a Muk.

How to Get Muk in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Grimer evolves into Muk at level 38. There is no other way to evolve the Pokemon, but there are no other prerequisites for evolving the Pokemon, as it doesn’t need to hold an item like Sneasel or learn a specific move like Steenee.

While many other evolved Pokemon can be caught in the wild, that’s not the case with Muk. The only way to catch a Muk is through a four-star Tera Raid battle. While that’s technically possible, there are dozens of possible bosses in four-star raids, making it difficult to get one. The most reliable way to get a Muk is to catch a Grimer and raise it up to level 38.

How to Get Alolan Muk in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

There is no way to get Alolan Muk in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet at this time. There is a lot of data suggesting that the Pokemon will be added to the game at some point.

Regional variants of Pokemon found in the Paldea region, including Hisuian Zoroark and Galarian Slowbro are included in the hidden files of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Alolan Muk is included in those files, with a full moveset and model. It is currently unclear how Alolan Muk will be introduced to the games, but DLC, a limited-time event, or a special distribution are all possible.

Is Muk a Good Pokemon?

Muk is a solid Pokemon for Tera Raid battles and the story but isn’t particularly powerful in ranked battles. The Pokemon’s limited moveset and Poison typing makes it a highly niche pick at the very best.

Muk’s strong bulk and high attack stat can make it a serviceable party member in the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet story. Against high-level Tera Raid bosses that don’t have ground or psychic attacks, it can do some solid work.

In ranked trainer battles, it struggles mightily due to the popularity of steel Tera Type Pokemon. Muk can deal big damage with Gunk Shot, but many types resist Poison, and many Pokemon can suddenly become immune to it by Terastallizing into a steel type. Alolan Muk may have some use when it arrives, but Kantonian Muk has no such luck.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
