In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, a returning Pokemon family to the series is Voltorb and its evolution, Electrode. These Pokemon are most well known for their propensity to explode when provoked, and this game does this justice when Voltorb or Electrode are approached recklessly in the wild. Players may be having trouble due to Voltorb and Electrode detonating whenever they get close or fight them in battle, or perhaps players are simply looking for where these Pokeball look-alike Pokemon are hiding in the Paldea region.

Whichever it may be, here is where players can go to find Voltorb and Electrode and a few tips they can use to make catching them a bit easier.

Voltorb Location

The easiest means for players to add these Pokemon to their Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Pokedex is to head to the area of the map titled East Province (Area Three) over by the town of Zapapico. Here in this section of the map are a bunch of quarries and loose rock and stone where many Pokemon can be seen exploring. One such Pokemon is Voltorb, the Pokemon that looks very similar to the standard Pokeball used in the game. Players should make their way over to Zapapico and then head east into the rocky terrain to begin their search. Voltorb is not particularly difficult to find after a few moments, especially if players have the appropriate meal power, but catching it can prove to be a bit more troublesome.

Tips for Catching a Voltorb

More problematic than finding the Electric Type Voltorb is successfully catching one, especially early in the game. This is because a Voltorb can and will explode if approached and, if battled, has a chance of exploding every turn. This can make it troublesome if players have not yet reached the point where they can buy Quickballs or other Pokeballs with a higher chance of catching Pokemon. There are, however, a few things that players can do to make catching a Voltorb easier.

Enountered Off Guard Voltorb

The first tip for players to use would be to approach a Voltorb they have seen using Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s stealth mechanic. Players should press B while walking around Zapapico, allowing them to walk around without drawing as much attention to themselves.

If players are able to sneak up on a Voltorb like this, players will be able to push the ZR button to through their lead Pokemon into battle with the Voltorb, which will surprise it. Surprised Pokemon are unable to act on their first turn, giving players an additional chance to catch Voltorb before it tries to self-destruct.

Voltorb Caught off Guard-1

The second tip is useful if players have found Quickballs while adventuring around the Paldea region. Players can opt to turn the autosave off on their game and make a manual save in front of a Voltorb that has not discovered the player yet. Using this method, players can continually reset until their Quickball is successful, which should not take too many tries.

Damp Self-Destruct

A third tip players can use to make catching a Voltorb easier is to first catch another Pokemon, specifically a Psyduck. This is because one of the abilities available to the Psyduck family is the Damp ability.

The Damp ability prevents the use of self-destruct moves from either Pokemon, allowing players to fight and capture a Voltorb without allowing it the chance to faint itself and prevent its capture. Players should also be aware of the type disadvantage they will have in this fight. Once players have captured a Voltorb, all they have to do is evolve it into an Electode to have a solid electric type for their team.

Evolving Voltorb into Electrode

Voltorb is EvolvingJPG

Evolving Voltorb into an electrode is a simple matter. Players will need to level up their Voltorb to level 30 through any means, including battle or EXP candy. Once players do this, their Pokeball Pokemon will be ready to join their team, exploding for the good of the player's quest to become the best champion of the Paldea region, including any new challenges that may arise in the future.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
