For players who don’t start Pokemon Scarlet & Violet with Sprigatito as their starter, Shroomish and Breloom are arguably the best Grass Pokemon they can commit to early. Here’s where to get these Pokemon and how they hold up in the games.

Shroomish and Breloom have always inhabited a unique niche in the series. As of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, Breloom has the highest base Attack stat of any Grass-type Pokemon. It also has access to some of the type’s best support moves.

This makes Breloom an interesting threat in a number of different types of play. Players looking to complete their Pokedex will want to get Shroomish and Breloom regardless, but everyone should find these Pokemon and give them a try at one point or another.

Where to Catch Shroomish in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players can find Shroomish in South Province Areas Three and Five, as well as the outskirts of Medali. This allows players who pick Fuecoco or Quaxly to quickly get themselves a hard-hitting Grass Pokemon very early on. Shroomish can be found across most of the southeastern corner of Paldea, right outside Mesagoza:

If players can’t find one out there, there are other opportunities. Shroomish can also be found in the wilds surrounding Medali. Players won’t necessarily want to bring the Pokemon to their fight with Larry, as his signature Staraptor will be able to make short work of Shroomish or Breloom.

How to Evolve Shroomish into Breloom

Shroomish evolves into Breloom at level 23. This is an easy ask of the player, given the fact that Shroomish can actually be caught at a higher level than that outside Medali.

Players don’t actually need to evolve a Shroomish to register Breloom to their Pokedex, though. A guaranteed wild Tera encounter with a Breloom can be found to the northeast of Medali, and the Pokemon is a rare spawn in this area as well.

Is Breloom a Good Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet?

Breloom is a solid grass-type Pokemon in Scarlet & Violet’s story and online battles. Unfortunately, it’s not an ideal option for high-level Tera Raid battles due to its relatively weak defenses.

Outside its double weakness to Flying-type moves, Breloom is a generally safe choice for a grass-type Pokemon for the game’s story. It’s not necessarily radically better than alternatives like Tsareena or Arboliva, but its strong offensive potential lets it do some good work.

Breloom also stands out as an interesting situational choice in ranked battles. The Pokemon has access to Spore, arguably the best support move in Pokemon history. If it puts a Pokemon to sleep, it can follow up with an explosive Close Combat or Seed Bomb.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
