Shuppet and Banette aren’t the most popular ghost Pokemon around, but they’re a rarity within their type. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players will need to track them down and catch them in order to get the original ghost-type physical attacker.

When people think of “ghost Pokemon” they likely think of fast-moving special attackers like Gengar, gimmicky support Pokemon like Sableye, or tanks like Drifblim. But across the early Pokemon generations, Banette was the only ghost type that actually stood as a physical threat. Though it has much more competition these days, it can still be a serious threat in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

While Banette can no longer mega evolve as it did in Pokemon X & Y and Pokemon Sun & Moon, the Pokemon is still a must-get for anyone looking to finish their Pokedex.

Where to Find Shuppet in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Shuppet can be found in the fields surrounding certain cities in Paldea. The Pokemon can be found in the areas around Artazon, Levincia, and Zapapico.

This carries some interesting implications, given the spooky Pokedex entry for this Pokemon. The Pokedex entries for Shuppet and Banette state that the pair are effectively demons who feed on the negative emotions of people. This might hit that the cities of characters like electrifying gym leader Iono are a bit darker than the bright lights may suggest.

How to Evolve Shuppet to Banette

Players can evolve Shuppet into Banette by raising it up to level 37. This is a bit unwieldy, as Shuppet is a fairly weak Pokemon that players will need to roll with for a long time before evolving it.

While it’s possible to just raise Shuppet to that level over time, many players will be better suited by just catching a wild Banette. Similar to Shuppet, Banette can be found along the outskirts of cities such as Montenevera and Alfornada.

Is Banette a Good Pokemon?

Banette is a generally weak Pokemon that doesn’t perform well in any area. The Pokemon has low bulk and a limited moveset that makes it sub-optimal in the story mode, high-level Tera Raid battles, and ranked battles.

Ghost Pokemon are generally limited in that there is no particularly powerful physical ghost-type move. Shadow Sneak is a good priority move but lacks power, while Phantom Force is a powerful move but requires a set-up turn similar to Dig or Fly. It also doesn’t have a particularly vast assortment of moves either, lacking common attacks like Earthquake and Brick Break.

That makes the Pokemon untenable in ranked battling and its low defense stats and HP make it a liability in Tera Raid battles. If the player wants a physical ghost attacker, Dragapult fits this bill and is one of the strongest Pokemon in Scarlet & Violet.
