Of the 400 Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet, 293 are from past generations. For example, Slakoth is a Gen 3 Normal-type Pokemon that hasn't been seen since Generation 6. Slakoth has two evolutions, Vigoroth and Slaking. It is a staple in Pokemon due to its final evolution, Slaking being featured on the Normal-type Gym Leader Norman's team in Ruby and Sapphire. It's exciting to see its return in the newest generation, and players might be wondering how to get their hands on one of their own in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Finding Slakoth

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Slakoth

Slakoth's Pokedex entry states it is rarely seen, but its spawn rate is even less than expected. Slakoth live predominately in the trees in the Southern regions of Paldea and must be knocked down to be caught. Players can do this by dashing into trees, but their legendary Pokemon must be upgraded with the dash ability. This can be unlocked by defeating the Stony Cliff Titan, a giant Klawf.

To dash, press down on the right joystick and drive straight into the tree. It might take quite a bit of time before one falls, so make sure to hit as many trees as possible. They are particularly fond of the trees north of Secluded Beach near South Province (Area Five). Players can also increase their chances by having a Picnic and eating a Ham Sandwich to increase their Normal-type encounter level.

Whenever one does appear, be careful not to KO it, as it take even more time to find another. A Nest, Quick, or Dusk (depending on the time of day) Ball is a good option to throw without damaging it.

How to Evolve Slakoth

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Slakoth

Catching Slakoth is the most challenging part, and its evolution method is undemanding. Slakoth evolves into Vigoroth starting at level 18. Slakoth has lower defenses and a devastatingly low-Speed stat, so leveling it up must be done with care. Experience Point (EXP) Sharing is automatically included in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, so players won't necessarily have to use it in a battle to increase its EXP as long as they win the match. Players can also use Auto-Battling, a new feature that lets them take a step back from the battling process but still strengthens all the party Pokemon.

Pokemon will not evolve during Auto-Battling.

Of course, those who want to quicken the process can use Rare Candy or Exp. Candy to level up Slakoth. Players can get Exp. Candy in the following ways:

Slakoth's second evolution is much more active and common, so players will most likely encounter Vigoroth before coming across the former.

How to Evolve Vigoroth

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Slaking

If the end goal is to get ahold of Slaking, they might be better off just starting with a Vigoroth and leveling it up. Vigoroth evolves into Slaking starting at level 36, and this final form is an absolute beast. It's a Normal-type, so it is only weak to Fighting-types and has immunity to Ghost-type moves. What used to be its signature move, Slack Off, is a fantastic recovery option to make up for its weakness. It has powerful attack moves like Hyper Voice and Body Slam in its arsenal with TMs. The one downside is Slaking's one ability, Truant. It will have to skip every other turn due to its ability, but perhaps this is to prevent it from being entirely overpowered due to its stat distribution.

The following chart outlines Slaking's stats:

Slaking

150 HP

160 Attack

100 Defense

95 Sp. Atk

65 Sp. Def

100 Speed

670 Total
