When it comes to powerful water-type Pokemon, not many fans think of Buizel. That doesn’t mean that the Sinnoh Pokemon lacks firepower though, as it can blow up many of its opponents in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

Buizel and its evolution Floatzel are hard-hitting water-type attackers that rely on their Attack stat, unlike many other water Pokemon that get by on Sp. Attack. It’s widely outshone in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet starter Quaquaval, but still inhabits a special niche in the game.

Buizel and Floatzel need to be caught in order to complete the Pokedex, and the Pokemon does have some use beyond that. Here’s how to get the two Pokemon and what they have to offer for players.

Where to Catch Buizel in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Buizel can be caught throughout most of the Paldea region, including all the coastal regions in eastern, western, and southern Paldea. Basically, the only area where the Pokemon can’t be found is in the northern reaches of the region. Its habitat page in the Pokedex can be seen here:

How to Evolve Buizel in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Buizel evolves into Floatzel at level 26. There are no specific prerequisites beyond that. While Pokemon like Annihilape have to use a specific move multiple times in order to evolve, that’s not the case with Buizel. Similarly, it doesn’t need an item to evolve as Petilil does.

Players simply need to raise a Buizel up to level 26, and it will be ready to evolve. On top of that, Floatzel can be caught in many spots around the Paldea region. The most likely spot to find it is in the oceans, but there are plenty of other spots around Paldea to find it:

Is Floatzel a Good Pokemon?

Floatzel is a decent Pokemon in the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet story and can be a niche pick in ranked double battles. It struggles mightily in high-star Tera Raid battles, however.

Floatzel’s high Speed and Attack stats allow it to deal big damage to opponents during the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet story. It isn’t uniquely strong, but is a decent water-type Pokemon for those who need it.

Its usefulness in singles battles is limited, but it can deal big damage in double battles on rain teams. When partnered with a Pokemon like Pelipper, its Swift Swim ability lets it out-speed almost anything, and it can deal huge damage with Wave Crash. Couple that with a Mystic Water and water-type Terrastalization and Floatzel can one-shot many Pokemon even if they take neutral damage from water moves.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
