Axew was one of the most heavily promoted Pokemon in Pokemon Black & White, and it returns to the franchise in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Players can catch themselves an Axew and raise it all the way up into a Haxorus once again.

Axew was the signature Pokemon of Ash’s companion in the Pokemon Black & White anime series, Iris. The eventual Unovan champion has a Pokemon that joins many other pseudo-legendaries in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

Haxorus is a fearsome Pokemon on its own merits but has a lot of competition in the games, with many powerful Pokemon returning. Here’s how to get it and how it stacks up relative to the many other Dragon-type Pokemon available in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

How to Catch Axew in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Axew can be found and captured in the areas surrounding Glaseado Mountain, including the Dalizapa Passage. It can also be found to the southeast of Mesagoza, making it one of the first pseudo-legendaries players can catch on their adventure. The Pokemon’s habitat page can be seen here:

How to Evolve Axew into Haxorus

Axew evolves into Fraxure at level 38, which evolves into Haxorus at level 48. That makes Haxorus one of the fastest-evolving pseudo-legendary Pokemon. For the sake of comparison, the Deino line ends at level 64 with Hydreigon, while Frigibax becomes Baxcalibur at level 54.

Players will likely have to commit to adding a Fraxure to their party to get a Haxorus, however. While the Pokemon can be found in five and six-star Tera Raid battles, it cannot be caught normally in the wild. This means that players will have to find an Axew and raise it up to get a Haxorus.

Is Haxorus a Good Pokemon?

Haxorus is arguably the weakest pseudo-legendary Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet but is still strong in its own right. All the pseudo-legendary Pokemon are strong with their combined 600 total base stats, and Haxorus has one of the highest Attack stats in the game.

The trouble is that Haxorus’ bulk is underwhelming, and it’s not especially fast. It also lacks the broad range of coverage options enjoyed by Pokemon like Garchomp and Hydreigon.

Haxorus is still a very solid Pokemon to use while playing through the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet story and can be used in certain Tera Raid battles. It has limited usefulness in ranked battles, however, as it’s greatly outshone by almost every other pseudo-legendary Pokemon.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
