Pokemon Scarlet and Violet don't just add brand new Pokemon to the mix; they also include a few new evolutions and forms for existing Pokemon. One such example is Bisharp's new evolution, called Kingambit.

This evolution comes as a bit of a surprise since Bisharp already evolves at such a high level, but it is certainly a welcome one. While most Pokemon evolve simply through leveling up, some have more specific Pokemon evolution requirements. The requirement to evolve Bisharp into Kingambit is by far one of the most unique to date. That said, it shouldn't be too difficult for players to accomplish.

Who is Bisharp?

For those players that haven't yet delved into the new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Pokedex entries, some new lore is included about Bisharp that hints at how players can evolve this Pokemon. In the Kingambit Pokedex entry, it is stated that "Only a Bisharp that stands above all others in its vast army can evolve into Kingambit." This still may leave players wondering how their Bisharp can stand above all the rest.

How to Evolve Bisharp into Kingambit

In plain speak, players must use their Bisharp to defeat three wild Bisharp that lead a pack of four Pawniard, all while their Bisharp is holding a Leader's Crest.

How to Get Leader's Crest

To get a Leader's Crest, players first need to catch a wild Bisharp that is leading a pack of Pawniard, as these Bisharp are the ones that have Leader's Crests. Finally, use the Bisharp with the Leader's Crest to hunt down three of these groups and then gain at least one level. After leveling up, Bisharp should evolve into a Pawniard.

It's important that the Bisharp that players catch initially and later battle are not alone, as they won't have a Leader's Crest unless a group of Pawniard accompanies them. The fight also may be difficult, so it's recommended to use a Fighting-type move since Bisharp is weak to these attacks. For those players having trouble finding Bisharp pack leaders, they can be located in the Bamboo Groves of North Province (Area Two).

Is Kingambit Worth Having on the Team?

Kingambit is a powerful and proud Pokemon and will no doubt make a great addition to the player's team. It is a bit slower than its predecessor Bisharp but makes up for this weakness with greater HP, attack power, and defenses. It is also the only Pokemon capable of learning its signature move Kowtow Cleave, a physical Dark-type move that does heavy damage and never misses. Kingambit's unique design, type combination, and evolution requirements make him an interesting new Pokemon for players to collect.
