Sandile, Krokorok, and Krookodile may not stick out for dedicated fans of the games, but there are plenty of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players excited about catching one of Ash Ketchum’s most powerful Pokemon. The problem is that it’s relatively difficult to actually track down this line of ground-type Pokemon.

While Ash is somewhat notorious for never actually evolving his Pokemon from the early years of the anime, one of his most notable Pokemon is Krookodile. The ground-dark Pokemon helped to carry Ash through the Pokemon Black & White anime, and is capable of carrying players through Pokemon Scarlet & Violet as well.

Where to Catch Sandile, Krokorok, and Krookodile in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players can find and catch Sandile in the western half of the Asado Desert. This is the area surrounding the Quaking Earth Titan boss battle. There are no standard wild encounters for either Krokorok or Krookodile, meaning players need to evolve a Sandile on their own in order to reliably add them to their Pokedex.

Krokorok and Krookodile do not appear in Paldea as wild Pokemon. The only way to directly catch them without evolving a Sandile is to chance upon them in Tera Raid battles. Krokorok has a chance of appearing in four-star Tera Raid battles while players who have unlocked five-star Tera Raid battles may be able to find a Krookodile. The chances of finding either are quite slim, making evolving Sandile the best option for completing this evolutionary line.

How to Evolve Sandile into Krokorok and Krookodile

Sandile evolves into Krokorok by raising it to level 29. This isn’t a particularly tough challenge as Sandile can be caught in the wild at anywhere from level 15 to 33 depending on the area where the Pokemon is caught. Players may be able to find one that only needs to be leveled up one time.

Krokorok evolves into Krookodile at level 40. The road from Krokorok to Krookodile isn’t particularly long, and Krokorok isn’t a particularly weak Pokemon relative to others in that range of levels.

Is Krookodile a Good Pokemon?

Krookodile is a fine addition to players’ teams in the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet story, but isn’t good in any other area. The Pokemon has good abilities in Moxie and Intimidate and a solid attack stat, but it has multiple key weaknesses.

Krookodile has an awkward 92 base speed stat, which isn’t fast enough to match powerful sweepers but is too fast to work in a Trick Room team. Making this worse are underwhelming defensive stats compounded by subpar typing. Though Krookodile isn’t doubly weak to any type, its mediocre defenses won’t hold up to attacks from any of its six weaknesses. This makes it far from ideal in trainer battles or Tera Raid battles, even if players change its Tera Type.
