Grimmsnarl was one of the strongest Pokemon introduced in Pokemon Sword & Shield, and it’s even better in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. This is absolutely a Pokemon to track down and test out, even for those who aren’t necessarily trying to complete the Pokedex.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players are spoiled for choice when it comes to strong support Pokemon. Old favorites like Amoonguss are joined by newcomers like Kilowattrel and Maushold, while others like Arcanine can be built as either a support or an offensive threat.

Despite all that competition, Grimmsnarl sits at the top of the pack. With a vast assortment of moves it can empower allies or disable opponents, and it can even hit opponents hard with no investment thanks to its high base attack stat. Here’s how to get the Pokemon and the best way to use it.

How to Get Impidimp and Morgrem

Impidimp and Morgrem can both be caught in the Tagtree Thicket area. This is the area just outside the Team Star Poison Crew base, led by Atticus. The area is also notorious for the performance issues it tends to cause in the game, with the Nintendo Switch struggling to deal with the lush scenery.

Despite that, players will want to make sure to spend enough time in the area to make progress toward getting a Grimmsnarl. Morgrem is easy to spot in the Tagtree Thicket and isn’t an especially rare spawn so players can fill out their Pokedex by catching both. That said, Impidimp will evolve to Grimmsnarl at level 32 if players want to quickly get through this area.

How to Get Grimmsnarl in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Players can get Grimmsnarl by evolving a Morgrem, or finding one in a five-star Tera Raid battle. The former option is significantly more reliable as players have no control over what raid bosses they encounter and the Poke Portal remains unreliable for finding raids online.

Morgrem evolves into Grimmsnarl at 42, giving players a clear path towards getting a Grimmsnarl. Grimmsnarl is one of a limited number of Pokemon that cannot normally be found in the wild. Though the Pokedex inaccurately states that many Pokemon cannot be found in the wild, there are no fixed or special encounters with Grimmsnarl.

Players can get lucky and find a five-star Tera Raid battle to catch one without dedicating time to raising a Morgrem. Odds are that simply evolving one will be much faster than hunting for a raid den with one, though.

Is Grimmsnarl a Strong Pokemon?

Grimmsnarl ranks among the strongest Pokemon in all of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. The Pokemon is a serious offensive threat with a vast arsenal of support options, making it viable in all game modes.

Players in the story mode can take advantage of its high attack stat to run over opponents. Grimmsnarl’s access to a unique move in Spirit Break and other hard-hitting attacks like Foul Play and Hammer Arm makes it a serious offensive threat.

It takes on a very different role with its build for Tera Raid battles and ranked battles, however. It’s much better there as a support Pokemon, using the item Light Clay to set up Reflect and Light Screen then following that with moves like Thunder Wave or Parting Shot. It can still hit hard but is better off enabling allies with its Prankster ability.
