Cetitan was one of the first new Pokemon teased for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, but players will need to find and evolve a Cetoddle before getting one of their own. The power and bulk of the ice Pokemon makes it worth the effort, though.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet bolstered ice-type Pokemon in a number of different ways. While a pure ice-type Pokemon wouldn’t have been particularly viable in past generations, the addition of Tera Types allows them to balance their strong offensive potential with better defensive options. Cetoddle and Cetitan can take advantage of this in a big way.

Where to Catch Cetoddle

Cetoddle can be found as a common spawn on Glaseado Mountain and the surrounding area. This is the snowy area in central northern Paldea. The Pokemon’s habitat can be seen here:

Players won’t have much trouble finding a Cetoddle during their journey through Paldea, but the Pokemon isn’t available too quickly. The best badge order for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet doesn’t have players venturing into the mountains until the second half of the game. The area can be visited earlier than that, but players may struggle to deal with the higher-level Pokemon in the area.

How to Evolve Cetoddle into Cetitan

Players can evolve Cetoddle into Cetitan using an Ice Stone. This can be done at any time, with no restrictions on the Pokemon in terms of its level or move set.

There’s no reason for players to hold back from evolving Cetoddle into Cetitan, but the benefits aren’t quite as strong as with some other Pokemon. While evolving Growlithe into Arcanine gives instant access to all the Pokemon’s strongest moves by the time it hits level five, Cetitan and Cetoddle learn the same moves at the same levels. Players have no reason to wait on evolving Cetoddle, but it doesn’t provide the instant benefit that some stone evolutions do.

Is Cetitan a Good Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet?

Cetitan is a respectably strong Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet across all formats. Whether it’s the story, ranked battles, or Tera Raid battles, Cetitan is a solid addition to teams.

Cetitan has an extremely high HP base stat and an above-average attack base stat. This is accompanied by some very solid move options including access to STAB Ice Spinner, Icicle Shard, Earthquake, and Play Rough. All in all, that makes it a bulky, hard-hitting Pokemon despite low defense stats and mediocre speed.

What makes Cetitan particularly valuable is its access to the move Belly Drum. Belly Drum maxes out the Pokemon’s attack stat, equivalent to using the move Swords Dance three times. It can be used in creative ways in trainer battles and can overwhelm bosses in Tera Raid battles. The move singlehandedly transformed Iron Hands into the best Pokemon for raids, and Cetitan can do amazing work with the move as well.
