There are over 100 new Pokemon with the release of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, meaning the overall Pokedex now reaches well over 1000 Pokemon. And while most of them have unique designs (like Gimmighoul or Gholdengo), some pay homage to previous generation Pokemon. For example, Klawf has an eerie resemblance to Krabby due to its crab-like features.

Another Gen 9 Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet that somewhat resembles the dynamic of Minun and Plusle (especially from the anime) is Tandemaus. However, once Tandemaus evolves, it changes significantly, adding two other "mice" to the mix (a total of four). But, evolving Tandemaus into Maushold requires a bit of leg work, especially for new trainers.

Catching Tandemaus

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Tandemaus Location

Players can find Tandemaus in several areas around Paldea, but the most common locations are:

  • Artazon
  • East Province (Area Two)
  • Levincia
  • Medali
  • Porto Marinada
  • Zapapico

The main issue of hunting Tandemaus is that they are hard to spot since they get lost in the surroundings due to their tiny stature. So, players looking for Tandemaus best do it on foot since riding Koraidon or Miraidon may make it harder to see. If players can't seem to find Tandemaus in these areas, they should make a Sandwich that grants Encounter Power: Normal or Teensy Power: Normal.

There's also a slight chance to encounter a shiny Tandemaus in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. But, sadly, a shiny Tandemaus doesn't have any notable visual differences, unlike Chi-Yu or Tinkatink.

Evolving Tandemaus

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Tandemaus Evolution

To evolve Tandemaus into Maushold in Scarlet or Violet, players must first level it to Level 25. Starting from Level 25, Tandemaus will evolve once it hits the next level, either by defeating a Pokemon with Tandemaus or while Tandemaus is in the party (using EXP Share).

But, players should keep in mind that using the Auto-Battle feature or having it only in the party (not the one battling the Pokemon) will skip the evolution animation.

The only way for players to see the Tandemaus evolution animation is by battling a Pokemon with Tandemaus (and leveling up). After the battle, Tandemaus will begin its evolution animation into Maushold.

Another unique attribute some players may encounter is Maushold evolving with only three members (instead of four). Unfortunately, both three and four-member Maushold have the same stats and provide no additional bonus.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
