Wattrel and Kilowattrel are among the standout new additions to the National Pokedex in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Players are well served to add these electric-flying type Pokemon to their lineup.

For a long while, the electric-flying type combination has been reserved for underwhelming Pokemon like Rotom-Fan and Emolga or powerful legendaries like Thundurus and Zapdos. There hasn’t been any middle ground over the years. Wattrel and Kilowattrel are set to change that in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

The frigatebird-themed Pokemon can be downright fearsome in the right conditions. Here’s where to find Wattrel and Kilowattrel, and what they have to offer players.

Where to Find Wattrel

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players can find Wattrel on the beaches of eastern, southern, and western Paldea. Though Wingull is the flying Pokemon most closely associated with beaches, it’s got some stiff competition from Wattrel as its habitat stretches around the majority of the Paldea region.

The Pokemon can be found hopping along beaches and flying over the ocean. Players can easily find and catch a Wattrel after getting the Surf ability on Koraidon and Miraidon, but there should be plenty of opportunities to find one before then.

How to Evolve Wattrel

Players can evolve Wattrel into Kilowattrel by raising it to level 25. At this point, its evolution will trigger at each level. The Pokemon doesn’t have any other prerequisites, so players don’t ended to worry about moves, evolution stones, or walking around with Pokemon like Pawmi.

Alternatively, once players have the Surf ability, they can simply search the waters further out from Paldea’s shores. Kilowattrel appears in the East, West, and North Paldean Seas, allowing it to be caught without having to dedicate time and a party slot to Wattrel.

Is Kilowattrel a Good Pokemon?

Kilowattrel is a very powerful Pokemon in both the story mode and ranked trainer battles. The Pokemon has strong support and offensive tools that make it viable in most battles.

Kilowattrel is one of the fastest Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, and has an above-average Sp. Attack stat. It also has the powerful move Tailwind and the Wind Power ability that boosts its next electric-type move after its use.

The general strategy with Kilowattrel is to send it out as a lead Pokemon, use Tailwind, and then follow it up with a powerful electric move like Thunderbolt. From there, Kilowattrel can continue its offensive or switch out to let other allies take advantage of the Tailwind Speed boost.

This is a very powerful tactic in trainer battles, but Kilowattrel does tend to struggle in six-star Tera Raid battles. While it’s fast and offensively powerful, its defenses are too flimsy to hold up in a prolonged war with a raid boss.
