The Everstone serves a broad number of purposes in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, and many players will want to pick one up. But depending on the approach to the game, that could be incredibly difficult or very easy.

The Pokemon series has introduced a number of new mechanics over the years that can impact how Pokemon evolve and breed. The Everstone was one of the first held items introduced in the series, and since then, it has had a number of different features added to it that relate to new mechanics added to the game. The item retains that variety of uses in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

Players can obtain an Everstone in one of two different ways. One could require an exhaustive amount of legwork, while the other will cost a bit of cash.

Players can find an Everstone on the ground in the wild, or they can buy one from any Delibird Presents location. Delibird Presents sells them for $3,000, and players can purchase as many as they want.

While other held items like the Life Orb have a guaranteed location they can be found in, and others like the Clear Amulet can be obtained by beating trainers, the Everstone isn’t available in either way. Players need to simply get lucky picking one up off the ground, or they need to purchase one. In the wild, they will appear as a yellow sparkle on the ground rather than as a Poke Ball that can be picked up.

The player may find one naturally as they progress through the game, picking items up off the ground. If they can’t find one, Delibird Presents in Mesagoza sells them right at the start of the game for $3,000 in its General Goods section.

What Does Everstone Do?

Everstone serves multiple roles in breeding and raising Pokemon. Its longest-serving function is to prevent Pokemon from evolving while holding it. This will stop the evolution screen from popping up if the Pokemon levels up and allows players to exchange Pokemon that evolve by trade, such as Haunter, to remain in their current form.

Alongside this is its uses when breeding Pokemon. An Everstone allows the nature of the parent Pokemon to be passed down to any eggs it produces. If both parents are holding an Everstone, the egg has a coinflip chance of having the nature of either parent.

Finally, it allows regional variants to be bred outside of their native region. For example, players need to use an Everstone in order to breed Galarian Meowth or Johtonian Wooper in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. If a Johtonian Wooper in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is not holding an Everstone while breeding with a Ditto, its children will be Paldean Woopers. This applies regional variants of all regional variants that could eventually be released in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, including Kantonian Tauros, Hisuian Zorua, and Alolan Grimer.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
