Evolution stones are a staple of Pokemon games, and Pokemon Scarlet & Violet bring back all of them. The iconic Fire Stone is among them, allowing players to evolve a select few Pokemon.

There’s always been a special attachment to Pokemon that evolve via evolution stone. While the vast majority of Pokemon simply evolve after leveling up, there’s an extra bit of mystery surrounding Pokemon that don’t evolve passively. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet bring back some familiar Pokemon that evolve via the Fire Stone and introduce one brand new one.

Players are able to grab a Fire Stone very early on in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet to help carry them through the early stages of the game. And in a stark departure from some previous games, players actually have easy access to the item from there.

Where to Find a Fire Stone in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Players can buy a Fire Stone from Delibird Presents at any time in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. This should be welcome news for players, as other recent Pokemon games, such as Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, left evolution stones as a precious, rare commodity.

Alongside the ability to buy them at any time, players do have the ability to find a few guaranteed Fire Stones on the ground for free. Two can be found just outside the city of Levincia, home of electric-type Gym Leader Iono.

The first is found just off the path between the East Province Area Two Pokemon Center. Follow the northern fork of the river to find it about halfway between the Pokemon Center and Levincia’s borders. Another can be found in the Northeast of Levincia. Near the river is a pile of rubble with a slew of items, one of them being a Fire Stone. The exact locations on the map can be seen here:

These Fire Stones being available early makes it easy for players to find a Growlithe and evolve it to Arcanine. Arcanine is extremely powerful in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet and can remember most of its best offensive moves at level one.

Which Pokemon Evolve with a Fire Stone?

Following the releases of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, there are five Pokemon that evolve with Fire Stones. Only three of these Pokemon are in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

The list of Pokemon that evolve via Fire Stone includes:

  • Growlithe
  • Vulpix
  • Eevee
  • Pansear
  • Capsakid

Only Growlithe, Eevee, and Capsakid are currently available in gen-nine Pokemon games. Alongside these five, Hisuian Growlithe also uses a Fire Stone to evolve into Hisuian Arcanine. Though the rock-fire Pokemon isn’t available in Paldea yet, that seems likely to change in the future as the Pokemon is in the game’s files but is currently unavailable without the use of mods.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
