Pokemon have various methods of evolution whether that's leveling up or evolving by trade. There are also evolutionary items, such as the Sweet Apple and Tart Apple in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. These work the same as evolution stones, but only for the Pokemon Applin, which made its debut alongside its evolutions, Appletun and Flapple, in Sword/Shield.

In Generation 8, Appletun was exclusive to Shield whereas Flapple was exclusive to Sword. Fortunately in Scarlet/Violet, Applin's evolutions aren't version-exclusive, meaning trainers can get Flapple and Appletun in both games without having to trade. The Sweet and Tart Apple items won't be readily available at the start of Scarlet/Violet's journey, but they're not too difficult to come by in Paldea.

Where to Find Sweet Apple & Tart Apple

After obtaining three gym badges, the Sweet and Tart Apple can be bought from Delibird Presents for 2200 poke dollars. While the price isn't exactly cheap, Scarlet/Violet players should have more than enough money by the time Delibird Presents starts stocking up on these items. If not, battle other trainers and sell treasures. Players will need one of each apple and two Applins if they're planning on completing their Dex Entries. Alternatively, they can catch Appletun and Flapple in 5-star Raids, which become available in the postgame.

Delibird Presents can be found in the following cities:

  • Mesagoza (x2)
  • Cascarrafa
  • Levincia

In case players are having a difficult time finding Delibird Presents at any of these locations, they can open the map with Y-button and zoom in by tilting the right control stick forward. When zoomed in, the shop icons will appear and make it easier to track down. This is especially useful in a large city like Levincia.

If trainers want to save up on poke dollars, then the other way to get the Sweet and Tart Apple is to look for it in Tagtree Thicket. This is north of Zapapico, where players can get the evolution item for Charcadet. Tagtree Thicket itself is home to Team Star's Poison Crew. If this is the player's first time visiting, then they'll trigger a scene with Cassiopeia and be brought to the Poison Crew's gate. If that's the case, backtrack a little and look for golden sparkles among the grass. Pick these up with A-button and the item may turn out to be a Tart Apple or Sweet Apple. Of course, farming items in the wild means it's up to chance whether players get the evolution items.

Tart and Sweet Apples only spawn in Tagtree Thicket. Players will want to make sure they're around level 32. Most of the Pokemon here are Poison-type or Dark-type, and there are plenty of trainers to battle as well.

If players use Koraidon/Miraidon to headbutt trees, they may encounter an Applin.

Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet are available for Nintendo Switch.
