In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, there is a class of items that are harmful to the Pokemon that is holding them. These items can be difficult to use as a result, yet they can prove to be quite powerful when utilized in the right way. These items can even become quite helpful when placed in possession of the right Pokemon, enabling a lot of strategic plays that can leave enemy Pokemon on the back foot.
One such item is called the Black Sludge, which is harmful to any Pokemon who isn’t a Poison type, becoming a powerful support item if given to Poison type Pokemon, and here is where players can find one for themselves.
Black Sludge
In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, the Black Sludge is an item that proves to be a detriment to any Pokemon that is not a Poison type but beneficial if held by a Poison type. A Pokemon that is not a Poison type while holding a Black Sludge will be damaged by an amount equal to 1/8th of its maximum HP at the end of every turn it’s holding it. This makes it fairly powerful if players have a means of forcing another Pokemon to hold the item, as it behaves in a similar way to poisoning the enemy Pokemon.
Its most common use, however, is that it behaves as a healing item for Poison type Pokemon that are holding the Black Sludge. When Poison type Pokemon hold onto a Black Sludge, it will instead heal them for 1/16th of their maximum HP at the end of every turn. This allows it to function in a similar manner to a Leftovers. This lets the more bulky Poison type Pokemon have a means of increasing their survivability if players do not have or do not want to use a Leftovers for any reason. On top of this, if the opposing Pokemon steals the held item, it becomes a useful weapon to aid players in the fight.
Acquiring a Black Sludge
To acquire a Black Sludge for themselves, players will need to head to the Delibird Presents in Levincia. The Delibird Presents is located in the northern half of Levincia, just sound and east of the Pokemon Center, on the same road.
To reach Levincia, players can take the road from Artazon, following it as it moves north and east past a number of Pokemon Centers, across a bridge, and into the city itself.
Once players have arrived in Levincia and reached the Delibird Presents, they will be able to purchase themselves a Black Sludge for the price of 10,000 Pokedollars. Then, players will have the means to utilize it in whatever strategy they have in mind for the useful item.
