Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players will want to get themselves Choice Specs, but finding them isn’t particularly easy. The held item remains one of the most popular options for special attackers and is worth seeking out for both competitive and casual players.

Choice Specs are a held item that boosts the Pokemon’s Sp. Atk stat in battle. The drawback to the item is that once a Pokemon uses a move, they cannot use other moves unless they switch out of battle or have the item removed through a move such as Trick or Knock Off.

While that is a major handicap, the stat boost without any setup makes Choice Specs a very powerful item in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

While previous generations have allowed the player to pick the item up off the ground, that’s not the case here. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet make players pick up the item in a new way, but it isn’t particularly hard to get them.

Choice Specs can be purchased from the Delibird Presents store in Mesagoza. The item can be found under the Battle Items category. Unfortunately, it happens to have a steep $100,000 price tag.

Players can’t purchase the item at any point in the game, though. The item only becomes available after the final mission is complete and the credits roll. It’s also worth noting that there are multiple Delibird Presents locations across Paldea, but Mesagoza is the only one that carries Choice Specs.

The good news is that the player can buy as many Choice Specs as they feel. This makes it easy to stock up after building a stable of ranked battle-ready Pokemon.

Who Are the Best Choice Specs Users?

The list of best Choice Specs users in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet includes Sylveon, Gholdengo, and Iron Moth. Any hard-hitting Pokemon with a high Sp. Atk stat can find some use for the item, though.

Gholdengo has become one of the most popular Pokemon on the ranked ladder with its devastating Make It Rain attack. Choice Specs is one of the best held item options for the Pokemon as it can get extra power behind the move and mitigate the Sp. Atk penalty that balances the move.

Sylveon is another option in single battles. The Pokemon has long had a relatively limited move pool, but has serviceable coverage with Hyper Voice, Psychic, Shadow Ball, and Tera Blast. While Throat Spray is the superior option in double battles, Choice Specs is a strong option in singles.

Finally, Paradox Pokemon Iron Moth may prove to be the best Choice Specs user of all. With 110 base speed, 140 base Sp. Atk, and a vast move pool, the Pokemon is the picture of a special sweeper. Choice Specs will allow it to hit even harder once Paradox Pokemon become legal in ranked modes.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
