In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, held items from previous entries in the series have made their return to the Paldea region to be used in whatever strategies players can think of. These items can provide extra power to various move types, add defensive options to the Pokemon holding it, or even mess with Pokemon on the other side of the battlefield.
Or, in some cases, items can actually harm the Pokemon that is holding them. This seems counterintuitive at first, but it can be a useful strategy for certain Pokemon. Here is how players can acquire themselves a Flame Orb to take advantage of these strategies.
Flame Orb
A Flame Orb is a held item that inflicts the burn status to the Pokemon that is holding onto the orb when they are sent out onto the field. This burn does damage to the Pokemon at the end of every turn and lowers the Attack stat of the Pokemon that is burned, at least normally. The usefulness of the Flame Orb comes from Pokemon that possess certain abilities or moves.
For instance, a Pokemon with the Guts ability has its Attack stat increased whenever it is inflicted with a status effect and doesn’t have its Attack stat decreased as a result of burns. This makes the Flame Orb the perfect way to activate the Guts ability of a Pokemon without having to rely on whether the enemy Pokemon uses status moves or not.
This is useful for many of the Fighting type Pokemon that can be found in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, as many of these Pokemon can be found with Guts as a possible ability for them to have. Using the Flame Orb allows a Pokemon with Guts to always have its Attack stat boosted and prevents other status effects from affecting the holder, at the cost of taking a small amount of damage from its burn every turn in battle.
Acquiring a Flame Orb
In order to obtain a Flame Orb for themselves, players will have to head on over to the second-biggest city in the Paldea Region. In the city of Levincia, players can visit a shop located in the northern half of the city, past one of the many Gyms in Paldea, led by Iono the Electric type Gym Leader.
Players can reach Levincia by heading through a long passageway that begins in the town of Mesagoza, specifically the east gate. This passageway leads through the South Province (Area Three) section of the map, north and east through the town of Artazon.
Once players reach Artazon and complete any business they have in the area, they can continue to follow the road north and east as it winds across the landscape. This road will take players past one of the bases of Team Star, which players can eliminate on the way if they still need to progress through the game.
Otherwise, players can follow the road through a few Pokemon Centers until they cross a bridge. Players will then be able to see Levincia on the horizon, as the city will be lit up like a beacon. Players can simply head in its direction to arrive in the city and head to the Delibird Presents. Their Flame Orb will be found in this shop, and players will be able to use it to increase their strength after they purchase it for the comparatively low price of 15,000 Pokedollars.
