In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, Life Orb remains a go-to held item for Pokemon that need an offensive boost. However, players will need to track the item down or pay a pretty penny to get it.

What's the Life Orb?

Life Orb works the same as ever in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. The item gives a boost to the holder’s attacks at the cost of some HP each time it uses a move that damages opponents. It’s a tightrope walk for players as they balance offensive firepower with survivability, but the free damage boost has proven invaluable across multiple Pokemon generations.

Players can grab as many Life Orbs as they want in the Paldea region, but there’s one that’s also available for free. Whether players are focused on Tera Raid battles, ranked battling, or just the story, this is still an item that’s worth getting.

Where to Find Life Orb in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Players can find a Life Orb on one of the islands in Casseroya Lake, where the False Dragon Titan boss battle happens. The item can be found near a rock on the western side of the island directly west of the large, central island in the lake. The exact location of the Life Orb can be seen here:

Only one Life Orb can be found on the ground in this way, but the good news is that players can technically get an infinite number of the item.

Life Orb can be purchased from the Delibird Presents shop in Mesagoza for 50,000 Poke Dollars. As with items like the Choice Scarf, Life Orb is only available for sale after completing Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s final mission.

Players only looking to finish the story mode can get by with just the one found in Casseroya Lake. Those putting together a large stable of Pokemon for online battling or Tera Raids may want to invest more for convenience.

Best Life Orb Users

The Pokémon Scizor

Almost any Pokemon built for hitting hard can get some use out of Life Orb, but the item is particularly valuable for mixed attackers and Pokemon that use moves like Swords Dance to set up. That list includes the likes of Scizor, Salamence, Mimikyu, and more.

Mimikyu and Scizor are strong Life Orb users due to their access to Swords Dance and a powerful priority move in Shadow Sneak and Bullet Punch, respectively. Life Orb does not cost health when using a stat-changing move, so both Pokemon can use Swords Dance and get in at least one powerful attack before opponents can return fire.

Mixed attackers that use both physical and special attacks also get a lot of use out of Life Orb. While Choice Specs offers a boost to special moves and Choice Band boosts physical moves, Life Orb boosts both. For a Pokemon like Salamence that is well served using Draco Meteor then pivoting to Earthquake, Life Orb is a great option.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
