Pokemon Scarlet & Violet have a lot of held item options for players, but the Rocky Helmet is one of the strongest and easiest to use. It’s an item that can counter many opponents all on its own and potentially cheese tough foes.
What's Rocky Helmet?
Most held items in Pokemon confer some sort of benefit that empowers the holder. Rocky Helmet is different. Instead of helping the holder, it damages opponents who attack them using moves that make direct physical contact, such as Close Combat or Slash. That can be a devastating counter against many physical attackers in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
It’s a powerful item, and the good news is that it’s easy to get. Players can find the item without much trouble and stock up on it if they feel compelled to do so.
Rocky Helmet Location in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Players can find the Rocky Helmet in the city of Zapapico. The item can be found on the ground in the southern part of the city in the area surrounding the battle ring. There’s an odd divet in the ground overlooking the ring, with the item available to be picked up in the center of it. Here is the exact location on the map:
The Rocky Helmet gives some purpose to what is one of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s most underwhelming cities. There is no gym leader in the town, nor does it serve as a staging ground for any titan.
Outside the Rocky Helmet, the city does little beyond hosting the NPC that helps players evolve Charcadet to Armarouge or Ceruledge.
Alongside this, players can purchase Rocky Helmet from the Delibird Presents store in Mesagoza. The item costs $50,000 and can only be bought after collecting a certain number of badges. The good news is that players can purchase as many Rocky Helmets as they want. This is illegal in ranked battles but is actually a viable strategy in the story mode.
Best Users of Rocky Helmet
Pokemon with high HP and defense stats, such as Toxapex and Corviknight, and Pokemon with the Rough Skin ability are the best users of Rocky Helmet. In both cases, the item can help the user deal damage across every phase of a turn.
Toxapex and Corviknight are Pokemon with high defenses and self-healing moves but lacking potent offensive options. Using Recover and Roost, respectively, Toxapex and Corviknight can force opponents to knock themselves out by healing and absorbing Rocky Helmet damage.
Garchomp doesn’t have a recovery option like Toxapex and Corviknight but is still one of the strongest Pokemon in Scarlet & Violet. Its Rough Skin ability works the same way as Rocky Helmet, and attackers will take damage from both the ability and item when using an attack that makes contact.
For a Pokemon that makes physical contact multiple times with the same move, like Maushold with Population Bomb, it can actually knock itself out in short order with this combination.
