In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, there are many items that can be utilized to alter the function and usability of the Pokemon that hold them, as well as such Pokemon’s moves and abilities. These items can be used to increase the variety of strategies that can be utilized by players during battle and will even be useful occasionally in multiplayer.

One of these items that alters the moves of its holder is the Terrain Extender, which can be used to aid in any strategies that rely on any of the Terrain moves that exist in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. This guide will teach players the location of the Terrain Extender and what it does.

Terrain Extender

The Terrain Extender functions in a similar way to the Light Clay item or a Heat/Damp Rock. For newer players, this means that a Terrain Extender increases the number of turns that a move that alters the battlefield will remain in effect. In the case of the Terrain Extender, this means that any moves that change the Terrain of the battlefield, such as Misty Terrain, Grassy Terrain, or Electric Terrain, will be augmented by the Terrain Extender.

The Terrain Extender alters these moves by increasing the number of turns that any Terrain caused by moves or abilities to last 3 turns longer than they would otherwise, lasting 8 turns instead of 5. This allows Terrain altering moves and abilities to be more effective and require fewer wasted moves in order for their effects to be reapplied or refreshed.

Terrain Extenders also work with abilities that generate a Terrain, such as Miraidon’s Hadron Engine ability that creates Terrain, or with Arbolivas Seed Sower ability. As such, if Terrain and its effects are important for a strategy that players have in mind, a Terrain Extender may be useful to acquire.

Acquiring a Terrain Extender

The first thing players will have to do to acquire the Terrain Extender is to compete the story mode of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. This includes all of the Gyms, Team Star Bases, and Herba Mythica Titans, along with the mission given to the player at the end of the game. Once all of these stories have been completed, players will have their list of purchasable items expanded as a reward for completing all of the main stories in the game. One of the items that become available for purchase at this point is the Terrain Extender.

Cascafarra

Once players have completed the story mode and unlocked the additional held items for purchase, players can go to the Cascaffara branch of Delibird Presents, located on the town's upper east level.

Terrain Extender

Once players arrive, they will be able to purchase themselves a Terrain Extender for 15,000 Pokedollars. Players will then be ready to increase the usefulness of any move or ability that takes advantage of Terrain moves present in the game.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
