Draco Meteor is one of the most powerful moves in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, and players can use a TM to teach the move to many of the game’s most powerful Pokemon --if they can find it, that is.

Dragon Pokemon have always ranked among the most powerful in the Pokemon franchise. While that was initially derived from their strong base stats, in more recent generations, that strength has stemmed from powerful moves. Attacks like Outrage and Draco Meteor can tear up almost anything in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

But while a wide variety of Pokemon can learn Outrage, Draco Meteor is almost entirely exclusive to Dragon types. For Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players who are using pseudo-legendary Pokemon like Hydreigon or Goodra, this is a move worth getting.

How to Teach Pokemon Draco Meteor in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Players need to use TM 169 on a Pokemon in order for it to learn Draco Meteor in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. No Pokemon learns the move naturally, and there is no other way to teach it to Pokemon. The only other way a Pokemon can know Draco Meteor is a chance of having it if was caught from a high-level Tera Raid battle.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet break from Pokemon tradition by having Draco Meteor as a TM. In most cases, Draco Meteor has been taught by a dedicated move tutor. Most recently, in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the character Zisu taught Draco Meteor and other learnable moves. The move has not appeared before as a TM, or as a TR in Pokemon Sword & Shield.

How to Get Draco Meteor TM

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players receive the Draco Meteor TM at the end of Operation Starfall. This is the mission that sees the player defeat Team Star’s leaders and uncover a conspiracy within their school.

Penny in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet

After winning the final battles of this storyline, the player talks with Penny. After completing each mission, the tech whiz offered players items and LP and keeps with that tradition to the very end. As a reward for completing Operation Starfall, Penny offers the player the Draco Meteor TM.

After receiving the gift, players are free to craft as many Draco Meteor TMs as they want at a TM Machine, which can be found at any Pokemon Center. The TM has a relatively high cost of 14,000 LP, eight Goomy Goo, three Applin Juice, and five Frigibax Scales.

Is Draco Meteor a Good Move?

Draco Meteor is extremely powerful in trainer battles but is not recommended for five or six-star Tera Raid battles. The move has an incredibly high 130 base power, even higher than the likes of Hydro Pump and Blizzard but comes with the drawback of sharply dropping the user’s Sp. Attack stat after each use.

The move can be used in trainer battles to knock out an opposing Pokemon and switch out. For Tera Raid battles, the move’s limited PP and the Sp. Attack penalty makes it an unsafe option. Dragon-type special attackers are better served by using Dragon Pulse, which does less damage but has higher 100% accuracy, more PP, and no Sp. Attack penalty.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
