There’s a new Tera Raid event live in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, and players can add not one but two different powerful Pokemon to their lineups. Sylveon and Garchomp are now available in Tera Raid battles, and players will want to make the most of this opportunity.

While Tera Raid events have been a normal occurrence in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet to this point, fans got a bit of a surprise. Game Freak made the sudden announcement of a new Tera Raid event that includes four and five-star raid battles that include Sylveon and Garchomp. That’s not what makes this one different, though.

Previous Tera Raid events featuring two different Pokemon have normally seen the Pokemon split between Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. This was the case in the recent Armarouge and Ceruledge event, where Armarouge was exclusive to Scarlet and Ceruledge was exclusive to Violet. With Sylveon and Garchomp, though, players can get event raids featuring both Pokemon on either version of the game.

When is the Sylveon and Garchomp Tera Raid Event?

The Sylveon and Garchomp Tera Raid event will run for three days, starting on February 16. The exact date and times are officially listed as follows:

  • February 17, 2023, at 00:00 UTC to February 19, 2023, at 23:59 UTC

Players have three full days to catch Sylveon and Garchomp, but only a limited number of raid dens will pop up for players each day. The Poke Portal will offer up plenty of other opportunities, but so long as players don’t sign in online in their game after the event’s end, they will be able to get a new batch of dens at the start of each real-life day.

Best Tera Types for Sylveon and Garchomp

The best Tera Type for Sylveon is either water or fire, while Garchomp is best served with a ground, steel, or fire Tera Type. Players should look to catch both Pokemon with a desirable Tera Type during this event.

Sylveon can Terastallize into a water or fire type to gain extra move coverage and resistance to steel-type moves. This is particularly nice when dealing with Pokemon that resist Fairy-type attacks, particularly Gholdengo, who can use Make it Rain to easily one-shot Sylveons.

Garchomp’s ideal Tera Type varies based on the format and its build. Tera ground ups the power of Earthquake and makes Garchomp less susceptible to ice moves. Fire lets Garchomp resist ice moves and lets it hit troublesome counters like Corviknight, while steel offers a load of resistances.

Because both Pokemon have many different Tera Type options, players should look to catch as many as possible during the event.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
